Some thoughts on a meaningful and resonant Grammys last night that raised over $7 million last night for for musicians and LA music industry affected by the fires. From the LA Fire Dept giving her first album of the year and all of those terrific new artist performances to the very poignant and thoughtful acceptance speeches to the Quincy Tribute to Chappell calling out the big 3 who have the $s to their pay artist benefits. Was a riveting night!
A couple more insights from me - Beyoncé made a great American (and Texas) Country album with lots of historical and musical references. She didn’t need to hang around in Nashville to do it. So when the Academy Country fans from around country voted she got it! Also for song and record of the year with 7 great women and Kendrick I do think the women split the vote so Kendrick got it. Kacey did get country song of the year for the gorgeous Architect and was beautiful in her acceptance in the pre televised . Matt B fromChicago got a global@music award. All just the dynamics of music and the industry vote! But still after that wonderful show, prouder than ever to be a voting member and former Chicago board member of the recording academy.

Made it back to Chi last night to see the 2nd of 2 Dog Pondering shows a gorgeous theater on the north side. August worked PR. Many interesting guests including Chicago Poetry Slam originator Marc Kelly Smith and of course a band of 16 plus. Interesting covers and deep cuts. A beautiful night.
