Pete Buttigieg serves snacks to passengers on delayed United flight
US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg took on the role of flight attendant during a delayed United Airlines flight from Chicago, Illinois, to Traverse City, Michigan, on Saturday, December 14.
As United Flight 4400 sat on the Chicago O’Hare tarmac for one hour and 24 minutes, Buttigieg started handing out snacks to his fellow passengers, footage from Sam Harris shows.
“It was another frustrating experience with air travel in the US but Secretary Buttigieg did what he could to help the situation in the moment,” Harris told Storyful.
Harris said the flight attendant on duty could not leave his post at the front of the plane during fueling operations, and after making multiple announcements offering people to come to the front for drinks and snacks, Buttigieg “spontaneously grabbed the snack basket and began offering snacks to each guest.”
“Yes, he made it down the aisle of the entire plane. When the basket was empty, he returned for a second trip to make sure he included all passengers. He smiled and made small talk along the way,” Harris said.
“Everyone appreciated the gesture,” according to Harris, who said the flight eventually made it to Traverse City with a one-hour delay.
Pilot hugs plane passenger whose bone-marrow donation saved his life
A United Airlines pilot was reunited with the woman who donated bone marrow to him eight years ago in Houston, Texas, video from December 14 shows.
The woman who shot this video, Laura LoGiudice, was on the flight and heard the pilot announce he was a bone-marrow transplant recipient.
“The donor was on our flight, and [the pilot] announced he was coming back to give her a hug,” LoGiudice told Storyful.
She captured the heartwarming moment the grateful pilot walks down the aisle and hugs the woman, thanking her.
“The young lady that saved my life,” the pilot tells the passengers, who clap and cheer for the woman.
