Early this morning (while I was asleep), I received a call from my Father. The news he delivered is something I knew would be coming any day now. My Mother, Annetta Joan Farr, passed away. I am not certain that the loss has hit me just yet. My Mother was one of the strongest and smartest people I have ever known. A woman who came from humble beginnings. With the partnership of my Father, John Farr, they gave me the life they both did not have growing up.
My Mother was a “Jersey Girl”, who never gave up her sarcastic tone. My Mother was a college educated woman, but she made the decision to be a stay at home Mom. A noble profession. I am so glad she made that choice because she cared for me and my older Brother with so much love. She had been a teacher before getting married more than 61 years ago. My Mother ran our household, and we followed her orders. My Father, John Farr, retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Air Force (a pilot), but he was a buck private in our house. My Mother was the General. My Father took care of my Mother until the end and I will always love me him for giving her a peaceful transition. My Uncle George Fleming was also instrumental in making sure my Mother was comfortable and I thank him for it. Like my Father, and Father-in-law, he is the type of man I have strived to be in my own life.
My cousins (who more like Brother and Sister) - Sean and Lauren Fleming - loved my Mother like she was their own Mother. I cannot leave out my Brother, Brett Farr, who lives much closer to my childhood home in Delaware and would visit when I could not.
Please keep my Family in your prayers, especially her younger Sister, my Aunt Gloria Fleming. My Aunt Gloria (my second Mother) knew my Mother the best and the longest. My Mother’s last words to me were to pray for her and my Aunt. I intend to keep that promise.
