A 21-year-old man who was arrested in Norwood Park on Jan. 12 in connection with a reported child luring incident is now facing charges in the murder and robbery of a 63-year-old man who on Jan. 26 died in the basement of a relative’s home, also in Norwood Park on Chicago’s NW Side.
A possible second suspect, who reportedly lives in Norwood Park and may have been questioned in the reported luring incident, also is in custody for the murder of George Levin. The incident reportedly involved two assailants who went to the home as part of a pre-arranged meetup and then robbed, killed the victim.
Alderman Brian Hopkins, chair of the City Council Public Safety Committee, has said the two suspects are “undocumented migrants.”
Alderman Anthony Napolitano, whose 41st Ward includes Norwood Park, said at noon Thursday, Jan. 30, that “two persons of interest” are custody and that charges are pending. He added that the incident was not a random act of violence. Napolitano said that while formal charges have not been filed in the murder of Levin, news reports that one of them had been arrested a couple weeks earlier for child luring and released after the charge was reduced is disturbing.
“Another f—ing failure of the justice system. … They gave him the opportunity to commit another (offense),” Napolitano said. “The offender nowadays is the victim.

UPDATE: At least one suspect is in custody in connection with the murder. He had been arrested two weeks earlier in Norwood Park on Sayre in connection with a reported child luring incident, according to police. He was released after the charge was reduced to simple assault, police said.

UPDATES on two separate murder investigations: CWB Chicago reported that Alderman Brian Hopkins, chair of the City Council Public Safety Committee, said that the arrest of two “undocumented migrants” is “imminent” in connection with the Jan. 26 robbery and murder of a Norwood Park man. The assailants may have entered the house as part of a pre-arranged meetup, according to sources. The victim had been beaten and bound with duct tape, according to police. Committee chair Hopkins, who has been critical of the Trump administration’s handling of deportation efforts, reportedly described the assailants as migrants prior to them being in custody, and Chicago police have not released any details due to the ongoing nature of the investigation. Initially Hopkins tweeted that the suspects were in custody but later deleted the tweet, reportedly then telling CWB that the arrests were imminent. https://nadignewspapers.com/63-year-old-man-robbed-murdered-in-basement-bedroom-in-norwood-park/
In a separate case, a man reportedly was taken into custody earlier today near Mason & Milwaukee in Gladstone Park in connection with an investigation regarding a 2024 fatal shooting at a Chicago school. No additional details were available, and police said that information on a possible suspect would not be released at this time.

Chicago police search for suspect(s) in the murder of a 63-year-old Norwood Park man on Chicago’s NW Side. He was bound with duct tape, beaten and robbed, police said. His body was found in a basement bedroom where he had been living. Police would not say whether it was a random act of violence, but sources said there are indications the brutal attack could have been targeted and planned ahead of time.
