“You Have Arrived in Hell”: Venezuelans Sent by U.S. to El Salvador Faced Torture, Sexual Abuse

Two hundred fifty-two Venezuelan immigrants in the United States were flown to El Salvador in the dead of night and indefinitely imprisoned at the Salvadoran mega-prison CECOT, the Terrorism Confinement Center. The detainees had no ability to communicate to the outside world before they were finally released to Venezuela in a prisoner exchange. The men were “subjected to beatings almost daily upon arrival,” says Noah Bullock, executive director of Cristosal, who co-authored a report with Human Rights Watch documenting human rights abuses and torture in the prison.

El auge de los centros de datos

Muscatine, Iowa es una ciudad histórica con una población de 29 708 habitantes, situada en la orilla oeste del río Misisipi. Mi familia y yo somos unas siete personas incluidas en esa población, que llevamos casi una década viviendo aquí. Es nuestro hogar. Mucho antes de que mi familia se mudara aquí, los residentes de Muscatine ya estaban acostumbrados a tener en su patio trasero a grandes empresas como las de la agricultura y la industria farmacéutica. Muscatine, Iowa is a historic town with a population of 29,708, located on the west side of the Mississippi River. My family and I are among the seven people included in that population who have lived here for almost a decade. It’s home to us. Long before my family moved here, Muscatine residents were accustomed to corporations in our backyard, like Big Agriculture and Big Pharma. A lawsuit was filed in 2012 and settled in 2018 against Grain Processing Corporation, alleging that it released toxic chemicals into the air.

‘Mega-Layoffs’ Under Trump as Corporations Have Cut 1 Million Jobs This Year—Most Since 2003

“Trump put billionaires in charge of everything,” said progressive Congressman Greg Casar. “It’s a disaster.”

The US labor market, which in recent months had ground nearly to a halt, now appears to be entering a downward spiral.

As reported by the Washington Post on Thursday, new data from corporate outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas found that employers in October announced 153,000 job cuts, which marked the highest number of layoffs in that month since October 2003.

Total announced job cuts in 2025 have now reached 1.1 million, a number that the Post describes as a “recession-like” level comparable to the steep job cuts announced in the wake of the dotcom bust of the early 2000s, the global financial crisis of 2008, and the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

Welcoming Words, Hostile Actions—A Pattern of Bias Against Non-European Immigrants

HISTORIC PATTERNS OF EXCLUSION

The American ideals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness were conveyed in the 1776 Declaration of Independence, but despite these idyllic words, immigrants have faced xenophobia, racism, and resistance. The immigrant experience in America has been defined by a pattern of hostile anti-immigration sentiment in mass media and U.S. policies that exclude, deport, and incarcerate immigrants from non-European countries.

The disparate treatment by the US government can be seen as early as the eighteenth century, with the 1790 Naturalization Act that only allowed white immigrants to attain citizenship. The arrival of Chinese immigrants in the US to work on the railroad, mines, and farms in the mid-1800s created a fear that the Chinese were taking white Americans’ jobs.

La experiencia inmigrante en Estados Unidos ha estado marcada por un patrón de sentimientos hostiles hacia la inmigración, reflejado en los medios de comunicación y en políticas gubernamentales que excluyen, deportan e encarcelan a inmigrantes de países no europeos.

Where Resistance Lives: Illinois’ Stand for Justice and Immigrant Rights

Collective resistance has been living proof that when communities come together, change follows. Illinois has been a state that has fearlessly fought back against the authoritarian Trump administration that has been terrorizing the streets of Chicago since September. Pepper balls and tear gas have been used against protestors, a priest, in a Halloween children’s parade, and as a scare tactic in general.

This excessive force led Border Chief Gregory Bovino to report to court daily with US District Judge Sara Ellis for updates on his ‘Midway Blitz’ operation and to see if he was following the law. However, an appeals court ruled in favor of the Trump administration. The ruling stopped Judge Sara Ellis from obtaining daily updates from Bovino about arrests and immigration crackdown in the Chicago area. This all happened hours before Bovino was set to appear before Judge Sara for his first hearing; the appeal from the Department of Justice is accusing Ellis of ‘overreach’ and ‘micromanaging’

POVERTY AND DEPORTEES ON THE STREETS IN TIJUANA

In the U.S. media, even in progressive media, we pay very little attention to what happens to most people when they’re deported, or when they choose self-deportation as a result of fear. Most people who are deported or who self-deport go home to communities far south of the border. But the people who are just dumped through the border gate and have no home to go to find themselves in cities like Tijuana, Mexico. For many years deportees from the United States have lived on the street or in the concrete Tijuana River channel.

A year ago, the city’s refuges were packed with families from places as far away as Venezuela and Haiti. These days, that wave of people from countries besides Mexico has dissipated. People know that Trump has closed the border. These photographs show the cavernous halls in shelters where migrants set up their tents. Today shelter residents are often families from southern Mexico, fleeing the violence. Others are still here because they cannot go home. These photographs also show deportees mixed with other street dwellers, eating at a sidewalk meal distribution site. This is a terrible reality for many people.

En los medios estadounidenses, incluso en los progresistas, se presta muy poca atención a lo que sucede con la mayoría de las personas cuando son deportadas o cuando optan por la autodeportación por miedo. El Valle de Lágrimas, Texas: Se organiza contra las redadas por ICE

El Valle está organizándose en contra de él Trompas y su grupo de bandidos, recientemente realizaron tres protestas en cuatro diferentes pueblos en Texas; Brownsville, Harlingen, Weslaco y McAllen. En total salieron más de 1500 personas en protesta el 18 de Octubre, el día de “No Reyes”.

Aunque no todos protestaron en la calle, las personas apoyaron las protestas en diferentes maneras porque basado en lo que se mira en la noticias respecto de cómo el ICE está levantando a personas indocumentadas, residentes permanentes y hasta ciudadanos, muchas personas temen ser víctimas del ICE.

The Valley of Tears, Texas Organizes Against ICE Raids

The Valley is organizing against Trump and his gang of thugs. They recently held three protests in four different towns throughout Texas: Brownsville, Harlingen, Weslaco, and McAllen. In total, more than 1,500 people took to the streets on October 18, 2025, the day of the “No Kings” protests.

Although not everyone protested in the streets, people supported the protests in various ways. Many people fear becoming victims of ICE based on what they see in the news about how ICE is detaining undocumented immigrants, permanent residents, and even citizens.

Here in the Valley, raids have been carried out and people have disappeared for weeks because ICE is holding them without the right to communicate with their families.
