I just heard the news of Rick Froberg’s passing. It’s rare that I catch wind of a talented artist’s passing and actually feel any type of way about it but this is one of those rare instances that is not the case.

I always identified heavily with Froberg’s art. Particularly the snarky humor and intelligent wit that permeated his lyrics and illustrations. Jehu, Obits and Hot Snakes all have had relevancy and heavy influence on my creative endeavors.

I never got to meet Rick but have heard nothing but good things from friends who were close to him.

R.I.P Rick Froberg a true American original and rock-n-roll giant.

Furthermore I propose that we henceforth refer to rock-n-roll as rick-n-roll as testament to Froberg’s raw awesomeness!!

TODAY!! Join us at at 7pm for a FREE ALL AGES show celebrating the release of “Nine In Seven”. opens!!

“Nine In Seven” is the debut solo effort from Chicago’s Kevin Frank. Nine songs recorded in various locations and settings over the course of seven years, “Nine In Seven” is the culmination of years of developing and perfecting a sound that is uniquely his and packaged as bite-sized, stripped down, loud rock songs.

Kevin Frank’s contributions to the DIY post-hardcore scene have centered around Chicago for over 30 years and can’t be understated. His angular, melodic guitar playing and song writing has had an impact and influence on generations of post-hardcore, midwest emo, math rock, and noise rock artists over the years playing in bands such as GAUGE, SKY CORVAIR, SWEATER WEATHER, and HAYMARKET RIOT, as well as co-operating Divot Records and releasing a slew of stellar music from bands like Braid, the pAper chAse, and Hero Of A Hundred Fights (to name a small few). I’ve always thought of Kevin as a working-class musician from a working-class city and the music he’s been a part of over the years heavily reflects that.

For the show he’s put together a killer band with members of Cougars, Firebird Band, and OR to perform the tracks from “Nine In Seven” which will be available for download and streaming Friday, June 30.

I’m beyond excited to announce that D&P will be adding KJF - “Nine In Seven” to our “Name Your Price” digital catalog next week!! We will be celebrating with a FREE ALL AGES show at SAT JULY 1st with opening.
