Colloquium: The Political Science Journal of Boston College

Colloquium: The Political Science Journal of Boston College The official page for Colloquium, Boston College's new undergraduate Political Science publication.

Colloquium is Boston College's political science undergraduate publication founded in the 2016-2017 academic year. Serving as a forum meant to promote academic dialogue and exchange both within and outside of the University's political science community, Colloquium expands upon the current offerings of the major. Coupled with the discipline's intensive writing and critical thinking nature, this un

dergraduate journal furthers the means through which students are able to address, ponder and critique the political issues of past and present. Encouraged by Colloquium to rigorously and objectively consider questions of significant importance, undergraduates bring scholarly discussion normally reserved for the confines of the political science classroom into the larger Boston College student body. Beginning in the Spring of 2017, Colloquium also published a shorter magazine featuring opinion-style pieces and artwork.

The staff of Colloquium would like to condemn in the strongest terms the acts of hate that occurred this weekend at Boston College. Racism has no place on this campus or any other.

We stand in solidarity with other BC students, faculty, and student organizations, and will continue to do our part to ensure that this campus is inclusive and welcoming to students of all backgrounds.

Meet Our Authors: Will Twomey

Will Twomey, MCAS ‘19, is a Political Science major and Arabic Studies minor. Will is from Ridgefield, Connecticut and he reads the New York Times. Will’s course of study led him to write a piece on American privacy laws and their modern implications in the electronic age, which will be featured in this issue of Colloquium.

Meet our Authors: Camille Ford

Camille Ford, MCAS ‘18, is a double major in International Studies and Islamic Civilization and Societies. Camille hails from Geneva, Switzerland. This European background fueled Camille’s interest in the Muslim experience in Europe, inspiring her to write her piece that will be featured in this semester's issue of Colloquium, “American Nativism and Islamophobia in Germany: Drawing Parallels.”

Camille reads The Atlantic, and when asked what she gained from the process of writing this piece, she referenced the knowledge gained about “19th-century America and the immigration influx which defined this period of history.” Be sure to pick up a copy of Colloquium this spring to read Camille’s piece!
