Misleading advertising and deceptive marketing practices have become increasingly prevalent in the digital advertising realm, aimed at attracting potential customers. Islam emphasizes honesty in commercial dealings and marketing. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) once encountered a pile of food with a wet portion concealed within it. Upon discovering this, he admonished the seller, stating that deception is not permissible, saying, “He who deceives does not belong to me.” The Quran also warns against unjust practices in trade, condemning those who give less than what is due when measuring or weighing goods.
The fundamental principles of commerce outlined in the Quran include:
Providing just measure and weight.
Not withholding what rightfully belongs to others.
Avoiding wrongdoing and mischief on the earth.
Being content with the profit allotted by God after fulfilling obligations to others.
