🔥 Delaware County Council Enacts 30-Day Countywide Burn Ban to Protect Against Increased Fire Risk 🔥

Delaware County Council has officially passed Resolution #2024-3, establishing a temporary, countywide ban on open burning 🚫🔥 due to high wildfire risks. This burn ban takes effect on November 7, 2024 and will last for 30 days unless extended.

✅ What’s Included in the Ban:
The ban prohibits all forms of open burning—including the burning of garbage, leaves, grass, twigs, paper, and debris—in burn barrels, fire rings, or directly on the ground in any outdoor location.

🚫 Exceptions:
Not all outdoor flames are restricted! You can still use:

🍔 Propane or gas stoves for outdoor cooking
🍗 Charcoal grills for cooking purposes
🚬 To***co products in any form
🏕️ Campfires within designated fire rings at licensed campgrounds

👮 Enforcement & Fines:
The burn ban will be enforced by all sworn police officers across the County. Fines for violations are as follows:

1️⃣ First Offense: Up to $100
2️⃣ Second Offense: Up to $200
3️⃣ Third and Subsequent Offenses: Up to $300

📢 Why the Ban?
Delaware County’s District Forester, Richard J. Hartlieb Jr., along with over 70 Fire Chiefs, recommended this measure due to the ongoing drought, strong winds, and fluctuating temperatures. Council unanimously passed this resolution on November 6, 2024, to protect life and property during these exceptionally dry conditions.

💧 Water Conservation Encouraged:

In addition to the burn ban, residents are urged to conserve water:

🚿 Turn off faucets while brushing teeth, shaving, or washing dishes
🧺 Only run dishwashers and washing machines with full loads
🚿 Take shorter showers
Use brooms instead of hoses for cleaning driveways and sidewalks 🚫💦

UPLAND: Another Borough has a burn ban

The Burn ban has expanded to another borough in the county. In a letter it stated "With the lack of rain and increased drought conditions, there is a greater chance of fire risk in the borough."

This is a additional municipality within Delaware county that has banned outdoor burning. However, on the bright side of things, weather conditions has become more humid and rain is expected over the weekend.
