White Perch and Striped Bass in under 2 Hours!

Bright sunshine and high temps don't always make for successful fishing trips, but not on this random Thursday. I set out looking for White Perch for bait, then turned my attention to striped bass, then back to White Perch, and then finished the morning back on the stripers. Today was all about hitting the tide window right and squeezing in as many fish as possible in just a couple of hours.

School's In! Breaking Stripers!

The plan for today was some light tackle trolling for striped bass now that the July 2021 closure is over. But that plan quickly changed when I saw birds working over schools of breaking fish. I was casting 4" Bass Assassin paddle tails into schools of fish and hooking up consistently.

It's hot. It's humid. It's sticky. Let's go fishing!

Striped Bass are currently in their late July 2021 closure so I went out in search of White Perch.

I threw some 1/4 oz White/Gold Perch Hounders and came away successful. Once I found the perch I also throw some baits to explore for puppy drum. I bounced some Gulp bait on jigheads but no luck. I had some taps but I'm pretty sure those were the perch.

These puppy drum should show up in a few short weeks. I'm looking forward to a fantastic fall with the amount of baitfish in the creek.

Kayak Fishing St. Leonard Creek (Striped Bass & White Perch)

I started the day trolling over some hard bottom lumps with 3/8 oz jig heads with 4 inch white and chartruese bass assassin paddle tail shad plastics.

I picked up a few stripers and marked a whole bunch more on the side scan then moved along and left them alone.

After a few fish I switched it up to white perch fishing throwing 1/4 oz Perch Hounders in white with a gold blade.
