Expect a road closure starting next week along Lake Road in Cheney.

Beginning 7/29/2024, Lake Road (391st) will be closed between 6th Ave and 23rd St S for Sedgwick County to replace two culverts. The project will begin with the south culvert first, next to the Cherry Oaks Golf Course Maintenance Building. Access to/from the Back 9 subdivision will need to be from the north. This project is estimated to take 2 weeks.
Crews will then move to the north culvert, and access to/from the Back 9 subdivision will be available from the south. This project is estimated to take 1 week.

We’re still trying. Saturday’s update from the Goddard Post Office is that the sorting facility in Wichita is looking for all of the missing newspapers. With luck, papers will arrive on Monday. Without luck, we’ll be making another Facebook post with some kind of silly meme.

STILL MISSING: GODDARD PAPERS
ARRVINIG LATE: HAYSVILLE PAPERS

GODDARD UPDATE: As of Friday afternoon, we still do not have a reason why newspapers for our Goddard readers (67052) have not been delivered. We are waiting to hear from somebody at the postal sorting facility on West Harry in Wichita. We do not know anything other than the papers were put into the postal system just like normal. Our local post offices have been very helpful, but unfortunately there is not much they are able to do. If we are provided any more information, we will share it immediately. In the meantime, we ask for your patience and understanding as there is little we can do right now, and please be kind to your Goddard Post Office folks. They are working on your behalf, too.

HAYSVILLE UPDATE: We learned that there have been some delays with our newspapers there. Some papers arrived early Thursday as normal, and more arrived Friday morning. We are hoping that accounts for most or all of the papers going to 67060.

Thank you to all of our readers. We are currently as frustrated as you are. We appreciate your loyalty.

Goddard readers, we have received A note to TSnews subscribers: We have received word that nearly all of the papers for 67052 did not arrive this morning at the Goddard post office. The papers went out on time and to the Wichita main post office for sorting on Wednesday night. It appears that is where the papers got hung up. We expect that the papers will be in Friday's mail. If we learn anything more, we will share it with you.

Cheney beats Clay Center 23-21 on a last-second field goal. Clay Center had gone ahead 21-20 after blocking a Cheney punt deep and scoring with 25 seconds to go.

Eisenhower comes back from 14-0 to beat Maize 35-14, capping the win with this final touchdown.

The streak is over! Cheney beats Andale 36-30 on this play, ending the Indians’ 57-game winning streak, which was the longest active win streak in the nation. Cheney also wins the district title, and keeps its perfect season going with a 7-0 record. Next week is a non-district game against Halsted. The Cardinals will host a playoff game the following week.

There is an active fire scene north of Garden Plain. A large outbuilding that appears to store both hay and farm equipment is burning near the intersection of 279th Street West and 4th Avenue North (Central). Fire crews from Cheney, Sedgwick County and Wichita are on hand, and Sedgwick County EMS was here in what appeared to be a precautionary role. Water trucks are filling up regularly in Garden Plain, and GP water customers are asked to conserve water during this time of heavy use.

Saturday 2023 Sedgwick Co Fair

The Sedgwick County Fair wrapped up on Saturday with a big day of events and fun. The day featured the Run to Cheney 5K and 1-mile races, the barbecue cook-off, the Sedgwick County Electric Cooperative Pedal Pull, the second night of the Demolition Derby, the finals of Sedgwick County Fair's Got talent, and so much more. It was another busy day at the Sedgwick County Fair, with 4-H contests, the Ranch Rodeo, live music, Sedgwick County Fair's Got Talent, and more.
