Support a US Coast Guard Barbie!

"The Barbie Project" was an idea conjured out of a tough time by our friend and radio legend, Mary Ellen Murphy who hosts Good Morning Grand Haven on 92.1 WGHN each day. She recently announced her new campaign to bring a Coast Guard Barbie to life, and we just had to have her on to tell us all about it.

Yes, it was news to us that a Coast Guard Barbie doesn't exist. This girl is in every arm of our military, heck she's even a NASA astronaut, but NOT a member of the Coast Guard. What???

This year, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the National Coast Guard Festival and the fact that beautiful Grand Haven, Michigan is "Coast Guard City USA", Mary Ellen has started a campaign for a Coast Guard Barbie.

While women are a smaller minority serving in the Coast Guard, making up about 15 percent of service members, you best believe they are an integral part of the service. In fact, the top person in the Coast Guard is a woman. Admiral Linda L. Fagan assumed duties as the 27th Commandant of the United States Coast Guard in 2022, and now oversees all global Coast Guard operations and 42,000 active-duty, 7,000 reserve, and 8,700 civilian personnel, as well as 21,000 GC Auxillary volunteers.

This is one campaign we can all get behind.

Foamin’ Fun!

Two weeks from today, join us downtown Cheboygan for a Fantastic Foam Finale Party!

Cheboygan Area Public Library invites all our friends and neighbors to celebrate our summer reading challenge! We will be in Washington Park on Saturday, August 3rd, at 1:00pm with a community-wide Fantastic Foam Party finale. The park will be filled with foam for everyone to play in! We will also be providing Ice cream treats from Dairy Queen for the event.

The Fantastic Foam Finale is also where we'll conduct the grand prize raffle drawing for our summer reading challenge participants. But you don't need to be present to win. And you don't need to have participated in the challenge to join the party and celebrate reading!
