While looking for Christmas music on Spotify, I came across Bela Fleck & the Flecktone's incredible "Jingle Bells" album. Everyone must listen to this whole album - it's so indescribably amazing. So I searched for any live videos of them performing it...thinking there was no way that the performance could be done outside a studio - using overdubs, and all the technical magic that can be done these days. Once again, I was wrong. Here's a live performance of Victor Wooten playing "The Christmas Song", on solo 4 string bass. Too often, sheer speed and technical ability doesn't end up being musically meaningful. This performance, indeed, the whole album, demonstrates the magnificence of when unbelievable technique meets such a level of creative artistry that it transcends into some sort of another dimension that didn't exist until his fingers touched the strings...
