Texas anglers! If you encounter dead tarpon or snook after this freeze, please contact the TPWD Kills and Spills Team at (512) 389-4848! More info below:

From Monday through Wednesday, freezing temperatures are expected to affect most of the Texas coast. Sudden and extreme temperature drops caused by Arctic cold fronts can lead to fish kills if water temperatures decline rapidly within a short period.

More tropical species such as Atlantic tarpon, common snook, and fat snook are particularly vulnerable, as they cannot tolerate water temperatures below 50°F. While it is unfortunate to see these species perish, the Sportfish Center can gather important data from them to support conservation. This includes using otoliths for aging, fin clips for genetic analysis, muscle plugs for toxicology, stomachs for diet, and go**ds for reproduction. This week we were able to process several fish provided by the TPWD Kills and Spills Team.

If you see dead tarpon or snook, or to report other dead fish, please contact the TPWD Kills and Spills Team at (512) 389-4848.

This is what the all-tackle-length striped bass looks like! IGFA

On January 15, 2020, Alex Foster beat his own record with this 124-centimeter striped bass to set the standing IGFA All-Tackle Length Record. Alex caught this fish off of Cape Charles, Virginia, and landed the striper after a 20-minute fight. After quickly taking the required photos and measurements, the fish was released to fight another day! This catch was 2 centimeters longer than his previous potential record from only a week and a half earlier.

Make Your Voice Heard! NOAA Fisheries plans to shut down winter fishing in Florida's Atlantic for 55 species. As proposed, the closure would ban hook-and-line fishing (including trolling) from December to February each year in federal waters of Atlantic from Cape Canaveral to the Georgia border. The 55 closed species include snappers, groupers, jacks, sea basses, porgies, triggerfish, as well as hogfish, tilefishes and grunts.

1000-pounder!

And that, my friends, is a 1000lb, 119” bluefin tuna. 🔥🤯🔥🤯

We never imagined outdoing the 114” fish from last week, but darn if it didn’t happen. Our crew of Captain Ron Edwards, Doug Gray, Davis Blackwell, and Tevita Peni Toia will never forget this day.

Thank you all for watching our Live streams and the constant support. We’re building something truly special here at Speechless Sportfishing.
