We take the wimp out of alt-rock, and the stupid out of hard rock...

We play artists like the Foo Fighters, Linkin Park, Volbeat, Cage the Elephant, Muse, Queens of the Stone Age, Seether, Silversun Pickups, Arctic Monkeys, Halestorm, Rage Against the Machine, plus lots of punk, and a little old school hip-hop and metal. We listen to YOU, and we know you're tired of those radio stations on messianic missions to "out-hip" each other, and those that bore you with the same 30-year old stuff in a loop...We just have fun with the rock YOU want to hear. We're supported by underwriting spots that sound somewhat like
commercials, but we NEVER hit you with more than 3 minutes of them in an hour. And, if you want to support us with donations, we'll have lots of items in our online store, where you can help us and score great "thank you"
gifts that might be worth more than your donation. And, you'll be able to do it without hideous over-the-air fundraising pleas and people trying to get you to sign up for "monthly plans" that you can never cancel. There'll be lots of ways to win too...whether you contribute to the station or not.

You probably heard about an on-air incident over at the 106 The Corner this (Friday 9/04) morning involving Fievel, the station’s morning personality who rage quit, making some comments about the war is Gaza….C-‘Ville’s homeless, and the nature of the company that owns the station, including its apparent surveillance of employees personal social media…
As you know we make little quips about issues in the news over here too, especially after playing some Rage Against the Machine or like artists…but since we’re a music station, we don’t usually go off in an extended way on specific issues….There WAS a talk station in our building (more about that in a minute) where that was fine. Leaving aside the professionalism angle to what Fievel did, (they- preferred pronoun-- and you) should be aware of the more important issue, which is the company that owns that station, SAGA –as we have mentioned often. It’s headquartered in Michigan and listed on the NYSE….They are here to make money….and if that means hipster indy-rock on one station, fascist hate talk on another station, and country on a station down the hall, then that’s what they’ll do. They are not local community folks, though their employees (like Walmart’s) do live here… Also, we should not single out SAGA, as Audacy, IHeart, Summit, and the rest of them that own hundreds of stations aren’t that different. Remember it’s the government that allows these companies to exist. If you go into a home and there’s rats & roaches crawling around on filth, you don’t blame the rats and roaches; you blame the homeowner who allows this to happen. If Fievel wants to rant in the future, it should be about Government policies that allow these broadcast behemoths, and other policies that make it near to impossible for competition to thrive, or even exist. They’re just doing what’s allowed; it’s up to people/voters to stop it.
Most of you know that when their former CEO, an ass-clown named Ed Christian (now deceased), was still in charge at this operation, SAGA made an effort to take our station and several other local, community-based stations off the air, including the progressive talk station….and it wasn’t just in Charlottesville they did this. To their credit, they’ve moved on from that, but just remember who’s local and striving to earn enough money to sustain our service to you, and not just making oligarchs in the cloud even richer than they already are. Support RockHits 92-3, 97-9 The WREN, &/or 101JAMZ today to make sure local, community driven alternatives remain available.
