Couldn't have said it better. I would add that it is worth exploring the generic "white male American" worldview that Matt Reeves reinforces and slips in with a not-so-slight of the hand. Reeves appears to think the victimized poor, homeless and drug addicts are the problem and need eradicated - pretty simplistic and irresponsible in current times. I'm disappointed not to see this aspect discussed more in reviews, but perhaps the lack of depth in the film just has folks forgetting to consider the filmmaker's social perspective.

The movie’s solid dramatic architecture is essentially uninhabited, with Robert Pattinson supplying the only substance.

Spike Lee at the 2017 Virginia Film Festival. What a treat it was to attend. One of my cinematic (and beyond) heroes. Boy in a box prod. was privileged to cover the 2017 VAFF with a press pass via the Arts & Crass podcast.
The context and timing of his visit made the experience all the more potent. It came at a time when Charlottesville, VA needed his voice, and he shared films that could not have been more intensely relevant.
