Tonight 1-3am (Sunday morning if you nasty). Join us as we celebrate Shark Week!

Today marks 5 years since the passing of the great Mark "The Shark" Shelton of Manilla Road, the patron saint of epic metal & one of the most compelling artists in the music's history. On Saturday (Sunday morning) from 1-3am I'll commemorate this anniversary with a special all-Shelton show. This is the most personal special Mr. Owl has done so far & I hope you can tune in.

As we in Virginia & elsewhere brace ourselves for a weekend of extreme heat, I think it's important to note that Shelton was, at least in part, a victim of climate change. He played a show the night before his death where the heat soared above 90F & ended up suffering a fatal heart attack. The consequences of this insane neglect of the planet by plutocrats desperate to keep their profit margins are just beginning to show themselves, & it will only get worse from here. The best way to honor Mark is to follow his example: keep making your art, keep sharing it, keep speaking truth to power, & don't let them take our joy.

Mr. Owl has been struggling with his conscience lately & has become tired & frankly ashamed of all the negativity he has helped put into the world over these airwaves. So starting tonight, the show is switching to an easy listening format to soothe your spirit & help you get your well-deserved weekend rest.

Cadmium is now an acronym: it stands for
Calming And Decent Messages In Uplifting Music.

As I said on the show, it is not my wish to tokenize or other these musicians, nor is it to imply that Black people playing metal is unusual or even particularly noteworthy. I didn't save up the bands with Black musicians for this show--I have & will continue to play some of these bands all the time. Just want to celebrate the contributions of the African diaspora to the tapestry of metal--historical & contemporary, global & local.
