This Shure Beta52 mic is probably a metaphor for my whole career 😁
This is like the 3rd one of these that I've had in the past 30yrs. Bought one new in the late 90s. I hated it, so it sat on the shelf & eventually I sold it on eBay. Got another new one probably about 7yrs later.........& again, the same damn thing.
Then I took another chance on a used one. I can't even remember from where, but I know I COULDN'T have paid much for it (maybe free99). Anyway, I dug in & forced myself to start seriously using it (probably about 2.5yrs ago) on a project.
And I'm telling y'all - I love this thing so much now!! It's my favorite kick drum mic!! And with compression & eq, it sounds EXACTLY how I want a kick to sound.
There ain't nothing different with the mic. Zero. It's all me.
My perspective is different.
Or probably mostly that I clearly didn't know wtf I was doing 🤣.
What's something that you routinely use now that absolutely did NOT work or make any sense at all before - then something happened & boom - It's all so clear now?!?!?!
