COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT TAKEOVER: In addition to working to make our Dream Experience program over-the-top, we also organize “Day Dream” events and, during the height of the pandemic, we built a “DreamBox” program.

Our Day Dream program was designed to serve a larger number of children during a one-day, local sporting event. Oftentimes, we partner with other area nonprofits such as, The Amputee Coalition and GiGi’s Playhouse, to identify participants. Then, community partners such as sports teams, athletes and sponsors help us create an extra special day full of family time, smiles and fun!

During a time when in-person events were not possible, the DreamBox program delivered smiles straight to the kids who needed it most! This program became such a special, much-needed “pick me up” for kids battling the challenges of daily medical issues and it soon became a part of our permanent programming by the encouragement of our hospital partners and the loving parents who witnessed how much joy these packages bring.

Each DreamBox is filled with hand-picked surprises and sports-themed gifts all personalized for one specific recipient. This amazing care package is then delivered directly to a home or hospital room bringing big smiles and happiness when it’s needed most!

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT TAKEOVER: What do you get when you mix one of the most decorated gymnasts in world history (a total of 32 medals to her name) with a wildly caring, compassionate and kind 13-year-old who is also dedicated to gymnastics and battles the daily challenges of anxiety? …An unforgettable, life-changing Dream come true! helped us make a dream come true for Lucy from Windsor, CO.

Lucy, who has always loved Simone Biles, was watching closely during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Much like the rest of the world, she was shocked to see Simone drop out of the competition due to the immense amount of stress she was experiencing. This aspiring gymnast was blown away by the decision and Lucy became even more captivated by Simone’s courage and strength.

“Lucy is a phenomenal kid and this experience truly changed the trajectory of her life, how she processes things, and views the world. Now, she just thinks WWSD - “What Would Simone Do?” - Noelle, DO3 Team Member

Simone was scheduled to spend only one hour with Lucy due to her busy schedule however, this turned into almost FIVE hours together because the two had such a connection!

They talked about gymnastics, middle school memories, their love of Tajin seasoning, and Simone even asked Lucy for opinions on wedding decisions for her upcoming ceremony! Simone graciously opened herself up to Lucy, inviting her to meet her dog and her fiancé, Texans Safety, Jonathan Owens ().

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT TAKEOVER: Our Dream Recipients and their families receive the full, red carpet, VIP treatment once the big day has arrived. This includes a “Dream Reveal” where we surprise our Dreamer and share the exciting news that their sports dream will be coming true! The bigger the reveal, the better! These are customized to include family, friends, peers and classmates and sometimes entire schools or communities in the celebration.

In this video, you’ll see an ENTIRE SCHOOL rally around Ethan, a Dreamer who is living with cerebral palsy.

Ethan’s sports dream is to attend a game. What’s next from here?

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT TAKEOVER: Hey Charlotte! We’re Dream On 3 , a national nonprofit headquartered in Charlotte with a mission to create experiences of joy, hope, and encouragement for children and young adults with life-altering conditions through the world of sports. We will be taking over the account today!

➡️ Many organizations similar to Dream On 3 focus on kids facing life-threatening conditions. While their work is so important and appreciated, we recognized the vast majority of kids living with life-altering conditions, mental health, and intellectual challenges were being left out. So, we set out to change that and the first nine+ years of Dream On 3 have been INCREDIBLE!

While our HQ is in Charlotte, we also have chapters serving both Carolinas, DC, Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, and the Rocky Mountain region with plans to expand across the U.S. Our programming uses the unifying principles of sports and the power of teamwork to bring hope, love, and joy to our Dreamers and in the process, become a catalyst for positive, holistic change in the communities we serve.

takeover: My sessions are ⏰ 45 minutes to an hour long. Each session is tailored to the animal at the time of the session.

I take my time to get to know the animal and love watching them enjoy themselves. Even if they can't talk like us, they show happiness signs. 🙂 These signs are called releases. This can be a lick, yawn, chew, and even a toot! All are good signs that they are happy and the session is working to help them feel their best naturally.

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT TAKEOVER: Because sarcoma is so rare and underfunded, more often than not, those with sarcoma are misdiagnosed. Jenn (), Co-founder and Executive Director of Move For Jenn, was misdiagnosed twice before she found out that the mass on her right foot was cancerous, ultimately resulting in amputation.

You may have seen Jenn’s story go viral in 2018 when she took to Facebook Live to ask her friends and family to “move because they can” on her amputation surgery date. Her video spread like wildfire and was picked up by a number of major news outlets! For the full MFJ story, head to moveforjenn.org/pages/about

The Mayo Clinic states that signs and symptoms of sarcoma include:
🎗️ A lump that can be felt through the skin that may or may not be painful
Bone pain
🎗️ A broken bone that happens unexpectedly, such as with a minor injury or no injury at all
🎗️ Abdominal pain
🎗️ Weight loss

Check your lumps and bumps! If anything feels off, see a doctor. If you feel as though you are not being heard, find a second, third, fourth, or even fifth opinion. You are your own best advocate.

COMMNUITY SPOTLIGHT TAKEOVER: We are so honored to be able to give the gift of movement. Our motto is, “Move Because You Can!” In this video you’ll see Connie (), one of our grant recipients, enjoy pain-free movement for the first time in years.

As we mentioned in the first post, July is Sarcoma Awareness Month. Did you know that sarcoma is often called the “forgotten cancer” due to its rarity? Sarcoma receives little funding, leaving those diagnosed with limited treatment options.

➡️ You may be wondering, what the heck is sarcoma?! According to the Mayo Clinic, "Sarcoma is the general term for a broad group of cancers that begin in the bones and in the soft (also called connective) tissues (soft tissue sarcoma). Soft tissue sarcoma forms in the tissues that connect, support and surround other body structures. This includes muscle, fat, blood vessels, nerves, tendons and the lining of your joints.

There are more than 70 types of sarcoma. Treatment for sarcoma varies depending on sarcoma type, location, and other factors."

This place has also been in downtown Gastonia for over 100 years and actually used to be a movie theater. 🎬 When you go in you feel the old charm preserved. I felt like I was walking down a red carpet to a movie premiere. They even have old movie reels on the wall that you can see the frames.
