The Greenville Little Leagues Tar Heel 9-11 All Stars have won their first 2 games of the 2024 Tournament of State Champions (TOSC Wilson, NC) and guaranteed themselves a spot in the TOSC semifinals.
Tar Heel (the NC state champion) defeated Tennessee 2-0 Saturday. Cayden McNeill, Thomas Moye and Bruce Tyndall combined for the shutout, allowing only three hits and striking out 10 Tennessee hitters. Mayson James sparked the offense with a two-out two-run double in the 1st inning for all the scoring.
The Tar Heel squad followed up their opening game win with a 7-3 comeback win vs South Carolina on Sunday. South Carolina led 2-0 after two innings but Tar Heel took control in the third inning with four runs and added a run in every other inning to win and guarantee a spot in the TOSC Semifinals beginning Tuesday. McNeill had two hits and two RBIs while Moye, Bray Willett, Graham Tadlock and Brynson Purvis combined on the mound to allow just five hits and strike out 8.
Tar Heel will take on Florida Monday at 6:15 p.m in their final game of pool play before the single elimination semifinal round begins on Tuesday. Admission is free at Bank Stadium at Gillette Sports Complex in Wilson.
