Synopsis: Truvy Jones runs a successful beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies in the neighborhood have a standing Saturday appointment. Along with her anxious and eager assistant, Annelle, Truvy styles the hair of many of the women about town: wealthy widow and former first lady of Chinquapin, Clairee Belcher, local curmudgeon Ouiser Boudreaux, intelligent and compassionate career woman M’Lynn, and her daughter Shelby, the prettiest girl in town. Shelby’s engagement is the talk of the town, but the joy and excitement of her wedding quickly turn to concern as she faces a risky pregnancy and a myriad of health complications. Eventually, when Shelby dies from complications related to her diabetes, M’Lynn has to deal with the most difficult of life’s challenges: the loss of one’s child. As the women of Chinquapin makes their ways over life’s many hurdles together, they find comfort (and a fair amount of verbal ribbing) in one another.

I was 18, barely. It was a weeknight, the cool crisp air flowing down from the mountain into bright lights of downtown Pittsburgh. It was theater night I didn’t have a crew call. The theatre was half empty and those who were there seemed only half awake. I had seen the show on Broadway, but with the replacement - this was my chance to see a legend. The previous year I had the fortune to see another legend, Carol Channing, in her most famous role. The moment she appeared on stage, there was a shift. A palpable electricity emanating from this tiny woman filling up the entire Civic Light Opera… I wish I could say it was effortless, but with a half empty house and an audience seemingly unaffected, I could tell she was working harder than usual. Still…it was magic. And I haven’t seen anything like it since. A decade later, I used her 11 o’clock number, “Kiss of the Spider Woman” as the 11 o’clock number in my one-man show, THE METHOD TO MY MADNESS…

Chita Rivera, we will miss you. Thank you for your light and for your service.

Good news and bad news: the good news is life is very full and very busy. I’m now assisting mom with her restaurant, The American Grill, in a managerial role; I am swinging two roles in PINNOCHIO at Children’s Theatre of Charlotte where I’m also teaching on Thursday nights, and I’m teaching private lessons in Cornelius at LKN Perform. All while trying to get our house built so we can move back to Concord. Also, after nearly 10 years of not having representation, I’m auditioning for an agent today.

The bad news is that I haven’t had any time to prepare my new studio space so I’ve had to delay my official opening. At present it’s still two empty rooms with two buckets of paint sitting on a folding table, but it has a gorgeous sign outside the door! I have big plans for it. The good news is I can teach private lessons as it is so if anyone of any age and any caliber needs private lessons, acting, coaching, audition prep, or life coaching then please reach out to me or refer a friend!

LASTLY, ever since I moved back to North Carolina, I’ve wanted to offer workshops for professional actors and theater enthusiasts. Now that I have a space, I can do that. Please like and follow my business page, The Acting School., for updates. My first workshop will be in Clown on a Saturday in February. It will be for adults, ages 18 and up. There would be a class size maximum of 15 so let me know if you’re interested, and I’ll be sure to send you the information first!

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: I am opening my own studio space in January for private singing & acting lessons for all ages, group classes for ages 5-18, and professional workshops for adults in Cabarrus County.

My studio is in the annex building of the Old Courthouse Theatre, although we are currently unaffiliated. I am still a teaching artist for Children's Theatre of Charlotte (for group classes) and at LKN Perform (for private lessons) and students in those service areas should study with me there.

There will be an Open House on Sunday 1/7 from 3pm-6pm, and we are officially opening on January 14th! Please like and subscribe to our page, follow us on TikTok, and sign up for our newsletter on the website! Oh, and come study with me! A semester of Acting & Singing Lessons or Classes make the perfect Christmas present!
