While planning our Luxury issue months ago, Madeleine McGee gave us a heads-up about the new cookbook her sister Evie McGee-Colbert and her husband, Stephen—yes, that of fame—were releasing in September. Photographed in and around their home on Sullivan’s Island and filled with family recipes, it hits the intangibles that make Lowcountry living truly luxurious: spending time with loved ones cooking, fishing and laughing. We thank them for giving us all a sneak peek in the feature, “Recipe for Happiness.”

In our September issue, you’ll also find grand homes, high-end clothing, alluring baubles, and gastronomic delicacies, including a 12-acre estate overlooking Bohicket Creek; our fall fashion feature; and a review of .

Caution: King Tides are back! King tides are the highest seasonal tides that occur each year. In Charleston, these tides can reach 7 feet or higher, which is about a foot and a half above our average high tide of 5.5 feet, posing a flooding risk for low-lying areas.

To stay prepared for king tides, you can view real-time and predicted tide data for free on the City’s TIDEeye website. TIDEeye also allows citizens to view street closures and report flooding.

Charleston’s king tide schedule is below for rest of 2024:
August 19-20
September 16-22
October 16-21
November 14
