As the temperature begins to lower and the leaves begin to turn, it might be time for fall activities to come into play, especially at the Tarble Arts Center that opened its fall exhibitions for this year.

The Tarble Arts Center opened to Eastern students and the community Friday evening, featuring three new exhibitions.

Jennifer Seas, the director of the museum, expressed optimism for the upcoming year regarding the museum itself and the exhibitions.

Eastern lost its Ohio Valley Conference opener to Morehead State University Sunday afternoon, 5-1 at Eagle Soccer Field in Morehead, Kentucky.

The Panthers (2-5-3, 0-1) had no answer for the attacking ability of Morehead State (4-3-3, 1-0). The Eagles exploded for a season high five goals thanks to a hat trick by sophomore forward Hetta Ornberg.

On Sunday, Eastern Illinois women’s soccer team (2-4-3) opens Ohio Valley Conference play on the road against the defending OVC champions, the Morehead State Screaming Eagles (3-3-3).

Eastern had a chance to get a week off from playing games, with their last non-conference game being on Sept. 12, a 0-0 draw at Indiana State. The team got to have a few days off before returning to training on Sunday.

At the weekly EIU student senate meeting on Wednesday, the student senate heard the cases from three candidates for the vacant vice president of student affairs position.

The VPSA is charged with brainstorming ideas to present of the student senate and promote diversity and inclusion, said Student Body President Taylor Cloud.

“VPSA normally does things like Panther Palooza,” Cloud said. “They are the ones that are normally are those that get appointed and come and present to us to vote. They also run DAC which is the diversity action council.”

After an intriguing first three weeks of the high school football season, only one team is still undefeated going into Apollo Conference play: Charleston High School.

The Trojans (3-0) are currently two wins away from being a playoff eligible football team for the second consecutive season, but senior wide receiver and defensive end Chase Clough says the team is aiming for much more than just playoff eligibility.

“We want to be 5-0 in conference play and 9-0 on the season,” Clough said.

Students used ingredients like black beans, shredded lettuce, tomatoes and more to learn to make meatless tacos on Monday for Healthy Cooking 101, put on by the Health Education Resource Center.

Jazmin Lopez, the graduate assistant running the event, said any leftover ingredients would be given to the Panther Food Pantry.

A new and improved Chick-fil-A was opened to students with added services including new menu items, a new look and a new way for food to be ordered.

While the new services have received praise from students, a question of ‘why now?’ can be asked.

Within the contract held by Chick-fil-A and Eastern, the restaurant must be refurbished every five to seven years, said Chris Coffey, the associate director for housing and dining for Panther dining.
