A scenic route we highly recommend 🍂
The November foliage was in full swing on this amazing drive!

On our roadtrip from Flagstaff to Sedona, we took Arizona Scenic Route 89A, definitely one of the most beautiful drives we’ve ever been on!

👀 A stop at Oak Creek Vista Point for gorgeous views of Oak Creek Canyon is definitely suggested!

The stretch of highway offers tons of trails along the way! You’ll also find two campgrounds and day-use areas with picnic tables, if you wish to stop.

🌾 We came across Cookstove Trailhead along the way. Time didn’t allow us to hike the 0.7 mile trail which climbs steeply up to a viewpoint on the eastern rim of Oak Creek Canyon… BUT we did enjoy the start of the trail in the meadow that offered stunning views of Oak Creek Canyon ⛰️

Our favorite travel advice that we always follow:
Always take the scenic route!

Cravings - Satisfied 🍔

Before we even left home for this trip to Arizona we agreed on the simple fact that we both wanted a juicy burger from a diner on Route 6️⃣6️⃣.

Mission accomplished 🎯

📍 in Williams Arizona hit every point we we’re looking for!

We had been up since 4 am, traveled more than 1/2 way across the country- we were tired and starving! From the moment we entered we were greeted with fantastic hospitality and kindness.

Here’s what we decided to devour (and we did devour it!)… ⤵️

🥑 Brian: Green Chili Burger with Swiss cheese, roasted green chilis, avocado, and green chili/ avocado mayo

🤠 Jennifer: Western Burger with cheddar, bacon, onion rings, and bbq sauce

Sadly we didn’t save room for dessert from their nostalgic ice cream bar serving up 10 flavors of deliciousness 🍦

Save for your next trip through Arizona and be sure to stop by!

You gotta try
📍
Located at 888 North 1st Ave, Phoenix

While in Phoenix, we met with Brian’s sister and husband, who live in there, for dinner! Hamburguesas y Cervezas did NOT disappoint!

Serving up a Mexican style burger concept, their menu offers a great variety of burgers and chicken tortas! We enjoyed cocktails & dinner outdoors and the weather was perfect!

What we enjoyed ⤵️

🧅 Spicy Onion Strings:
Thinly sliced onions lightly battered and served with a spicy BBQ sauce.

🍅 Chips & Salsa:
White corn tortilla chips served with tatemada salsa

🍗 The Don Pastor Pollo Torta:
Pastor marinated chicken grilled, grilled pineapple, guacamole, diced white onion, cilantro, lettuce, and chile de árbol salsa. Served on a toasted telera

🥪 First Avenue Chicken Torta:
Citrus marinated chicken breast grilled, lettuce, mayo, tomato, sliced red onion, guacamole and bacon.

🍔 Americano Burger:
Half pound chuck, lettuce, tomato, sliced white onion, mayo, and cheddar cheese.

This is the week!

We have been planning our trip to Arizona for months now and the week is finally here 😝

The weather will be much different for us there than here in Charleston SC. We’re looking at temps of 50s by day and 20s by night so we are definitely looking to pack our winter wear. These temps remind us of the temps of England when we visited back in March!

We plan to get started with our packing today! When we go on long trip we always start packing several days to a weekend before and always make a list as not to forget anything. For short weekend getaways we pack the night before 🫣

How soon do you start packing for a trip before you go?

…right here in Georgia!

📍 Zum Rosenhof German Restaurant and SpeiseKammer German Gourmet Foods in downtown Hinesville GA with 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐲

With authentic German dishes made from scratch, and the Deutsch decor, this spot will make feel like you’re in Europe!

🥨 We stopped in for a quick bite and enjoyed the Laugenbrezel with cream cheese dip!

Fun Fact: our 15 year old daughter is learning the German language and culture as her foreign language. She taught us German is the English word for the language and the culture. Deutsch is the German word for the language and the culture 🖤❤️💛

Hinesville, Georgia 🍑

Founded in 1837, Hinesville Georgia was a great weekend getaway from Charleston this weekend! Just what we needed to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Our new friends were amazing hosts showed us such kindness and hospitality!

We spent a few days exploring the town and Liberty County. Here’s how we enjoyed our Saturday in Hinesville..

☕️ Enjoyed a slow morning at with fresh brewed coffee before we began our daily adventures!

🌿 Stretched our legs and took in some fresh air at Bryant Commons Park. They have a wonderful enclosed dog park, Cisco’s Dog Park, where our golden boy was able to get some energy out too!

🌭 Our afternoon was spent strolling the 2023 Food Truck Festival! We enjoyed so many local eats and drinks. Stay tuned for more on our Food truck festival adventure!

🛍️ The downtown streets were lined with local makers and unique goods- I was able to get some fun holiday gifts for family while there while supporting local vendors!

🏨 Took our fella back for a little nap before heading out for the evening. If you haven’t guessed is pet friendly!

🥨 The evening led us to ! This authentic German restaurant is located right downtown! We enjoyed a giant pretzel and a fun atmosphere!

🛒 Located directly next door is SpeiseKammer German Gourmet Foods shop! We loaded up on authentic food and meats!

🏡 Afterwards we strolled downtown! We saw the historic Bacon-Fraser House and the Old Liberty Jail. Visitors can enjoy free tours of the jail from 10 a.m.-2pm Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, and by appointment.

🌮 We finished our evening with dinner at ! Details on our dinner experience coming soon!

Time for another camping trip 🏕️

This weekend we are packing up for another camping trip! This brings us back to our trip to Dreher Island State Park . 9/10 times we will always choose a campsite at a state park. We have found the state parks are very well maintained.

🌲Here in South Carolina we have 47 state parks with more than 90,000 acres of protected lands stretching from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the sand dunes of the Atlantic Ocean.

🎫 Don’t forget to get your All Park Passport! This will provide unlimited entry to all South Carolina state parks for everyone in the pass holder's vehicle. It will also allow you free entry to the park’s historic house tours, entry to Hunting Island State Park Lighthouse, and Atalaya Castle in Huntington Beach State Park!

🥾We have visited 15 of our SC state parks and have a goal to explore them all.

We have camped at 6 out of those 15:
⛺️ Dreher Island
⛺️ Table Rock
⛺️ Devils Fork
⛺️ Hunting Island
⛺️ Chester
⛺️ Colleton (This weekend)

Remember to always practice the leave no trace rule to help keep our parks beautiful!

Follow along with us this weekend at .wanderingfoxes for our weekend outdoor adventure 🍂

Have you heard about this scenic Waterfall drive?

🚙 Located on an unpaved 9 mile mountainous service road (FS 74) in the Pisgah National Forest of North Carolina.

🧺 At the base of the drive there’s a pull off area along the flowing water! We enjoyed a nice picnic there before our drive up.

💦 There are 10 roadside cascades along this road that you can see right from your car, including Walker Falls - a 45 ft fall right off the side of the road!

🥾 Once at the top of the mountain drive, you’ll meet a parking area with a trail leading to Douglas Falls - a 70 ft fall. The half-mile hike to the waterfall is considered an easy hike for most fitness levels.

❄️ Keep in mind the service road is usually closed in the winter months December-March

🌲 Please remember to leave no trace on your adventure to help keep this beautiful place clean!

Save for your next waterfall excursion and follow .wanderingfoxes for more travel and experience ideas!

Little Red Cabin in the Forest 🌳

Talk about complete seclusion! The Red Cabin at Mountain Laurel Retreat is just that. This family owned 250 acre mountainous property in Burnsville North Carolina is just off the Blue Ridge Parkway . The property also boarders the Pisgah National Forest

The 2 mile gravel driveway is straight off the parkway, and through the forest to the house.. at one point there is a complete drop off on the side!

We had every thing we needed for a weekend of peace and quiet. We woke up to the sound of rain and enjoyed our coffee on the porch.

Literally just us, our pup Dexter , and nature!

Day trip from Charleston for history enthusiasts!

The Old Sheldon Church Ruins located at Old Sheldon Church Road in Yemassee, SC is about 1.5 hour south of Charleston.

Built in the Greek Revival style between 1745 and 1753, originally known as Prince William's Parish Church. The church was burned in 1779, rebuilt in 1826, then burned again in 1865.

The ruins lie among majestic oaks and scattered graves.

💾 Save for your next downtown Charleston day!

This is one of my absolute favorite spots in downtown Charleston. Located on Church St between Water and Atlantic Streets.

Let’s eat!

When in Helen Georgia, you gotta try a German restaurant! I mean, that’s the whole theme of the town right 🇩🇪

📍 Hofbrauhaus Restaurant, est 1976

The staff were donned in German costumes:
Lederhosen (breeches worn by men that include suspenders worn over the shoulders and connected in the front by a decorative crosspiece)
and dirndl (woman's dress traditionally worn in southern Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, and Alpine regions of Italy)

What we ate:
🐔 Chicken Schnitzel with German potato salad & red cabbage

🐷 Pork Shnitzel with potato cake & spatzle

🐮 Reuben Sandwich with fries

🥔 Potato skins with cheese & bacon
