The Charleston County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force of the South Carolina Office of the Attorney General and multiple other agencies, announced the results of Operation Cast Net. Operation Cast Net was a near year-long chat operation in which we were able to get 12 s*xual predators off the street.

I’m grateful for the ICAC Task Force and our agency for keeping families in the Lowcountry safe. As a new PIO, times like this are just so fulfilling. I can check organizing my first news conference off my list ✔

Last week's Media and Public Relations course was hosted by the Georgia State Patrol and Colonel Billy Hitchens! 22 students from five states, including the Atlanta Police Department, the Baltimore Police Department and the South Carolina Highway Patrol graduated from this course. Congratulations to all, and thank you to FBI-LEEDA instructor Matt Fagiana for your commitment to our partners.

What an amazing experience this week at the Georgia State Patrol Headquarters in Atlanta taking the FBI-LEEDA Media and Public Relations Course with 22 other professionals from 6 different states.

For those who don’t know, my instructor, Matthew Fagiana, and I first met while he was PIO at Loudon County Sheriff's Office and I was an Anchor/Reporter in Knoxville. I saw Matt’s remarkable dedication to his East Tennessee community and agency first-hand. Now, he’s teaching me as I continue to grow in my role as PIO for the Charleston County Sheriff's Office. Taking notes from one of the best this week with some amazing colleagues by my side was an honor. Excited to keep learning and having some fun along the way!

“Legion loved riding on the boats and was notorious for somehow being able to catch naps even in the roughest of waters,” said Master Mariner Jeremy Kraus. “We will all miss Legion being under our legs and sitting on our feet.”

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office announces the passing of our agency’s retired narcotics detection K9 Legion. He was 12 years old.

Partnered with Master Mariner Kevin Meyer, Legion served the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office honorably for 10 years before retiring last spring. Legion was assigned to the Marine Patrol Unit, and he was tasked with Port Terminal searches and assisted with Customs and Border Protection.

We thank him for his service to protect Charleston County and our nation’s border. May he rest easy. 💙🐾🌊🌈

Officer Struck by Vehicle- Update

Mount Pleasant, SC – The Mount Pleasant Police Department would like to identify the officer that was struck by a vehicle last night as Patrolman First Class Adam Blankenship. He has been with the agency since March 2022. We ask the public to continue to keep him, his family and the agency in your thoughts and prayers as he continues to work towards recovery.

UPDATE: Below is the latest from Blount Co. Officials about the second fire burning about 4-5 miles from the Rich Mtn. Fire on the other side of 321.

- Doubled in size
- Approx. 30-40 acres
- Approx. 30-40% contained
- No structures in danger
- Working with the Dept. of Forestry to get containment lines down

We’ve been at the Tuckaleechee United Methodist Church this morning for GMT on WATE 6 On Your Side. There were more than a dozen evacuees in the church and also in the parking lot waiting in their cars with their pets. Many saying they got knocks at the door to evacuate around 3 A.M.

I just spoke with Blount County Official Don Stallions. He said there are two fires right now crews are working in the Townsend/Great Smokies National Park area.

Rich Mountain Fire:
- In Great Smoky Mountains National Park which started Monday afternoon.
- Park service has a line around the fire and two contingency lines.
- 100% Contained.

Second Fire about 4 or 5 miles away from the Rich Mountain Fire:
- Off of Carrs Creek Road and Likely Lane.
- 15 Acres.
- 0% contained.
- 1 structure threatened.

Voluntary evacuations for portion of Dry Valley Road still in effect.

LIFE UPDATE: I'll keep this as short as I can, but I have made the very difficult decision to leave the news industry. I will be starting a new gig in Charleston, South Carolina and Drew will be a stay at home dad!

This is a job I have loved dearly. Some would have hated the morning hours I've worked for close to a decade, but for me it's been a joy to be part of your morning routine. In Spokane, Springfield, and here in Knoxville I have gone through different chapters in my life that have molded my into the woman I am today. I appreciate all news has given me and am beyond grateful for the wonderful people I have met along the way.

That being said, while my little girl is still very young, I feel it's my time to start being home as she wakes up in the morning and starts her day rather than be in the studio. There's something about being home as the family starts a new day that I don't feel I can miss. I have found something that has provided me more flexibility.

My last day on air will be for the Good Morning Tennessee newscast on Black Friday. After that, we'll be trading the mountains for the beaches of the lowcountry.
