How many times do you choose not to do something fun because of your insecurity about your appearance? You don’t take the photo with your kids because you are wearing shorts and don’t like your legs. You don’t swim in the pool or in the ocean because you are too nervous to be in a bathing suit in front of other people. You don’t dance with your friends because it makes your arms jiggle. Friends, this summer can be different. We can accept the bodies we have right at this moment and have fun with them. Don’t let insecurity steal the joy that could be yours this summer. Life is too short to be missing out.🤍

Are we listening to the Holy Spirit? 🕊️ I loved this quote from on last month’s episode. I immediately wrote it down and have thought about it a lot over the past few weeks. Tomorrow’s episode is a short one about what I’ve been learning in this season of life, faith and business - and the Holy Spirit is one of the things I chat about! Do you feel like you are in tune with the Holy Spirit on a regular basis?

“The Christian Gospel is that I am so flawed that Jesus had to die for me, yet I am so loved and valued that Jesus was glad to die for me. This leads to deep humility and deep confidence at the same time. It undermines both swaggering and sniveling. I cannot feel superior to anyone, and yet I have nothing to prove to anyone. I do not think more of myself nor less of myself. Instead, I think of myself less.” - 🤍

✨Consuming vs. Creating ✨ What are we doing more of? Are we mindlessly consuming social media, Netflix, fast food? Or are we creating something - art, a garden, a recipe, an experience, a letter to a friend? When I start to feel a little burnt out, I notice that I tend to have been in consumption mode for far too long. It goes against our nature, being made in the image of the big C Creator. We were meant to be makers more than takers…meant to create and cultivate over consume. I’ll be taking a social media break in July, and I honestly can’t wait to see what comes out of it creatively. What are you doing more of right now- consuming or creating?

Death, burial, resurrection, and new life. Any time we garden or plant seeds, creation is whispering this process to us. I planted a few herbs from seed this year and the reminder that God made creation to teach us about Him was much needed. Death to the seed as it is buried. Waiting and wondering if anything good will come out of the tomb of dirt. New life in a beautiful new body coming forth just when we had given up hope. Over and over again we are reminded of this truth. 🌱 How do you experience God in creation?

Well, we are in the thick of spring wedding season and I’m curious- how are you? Are you feeling burnt out? Has your spiritual life taken a backseat to work? The temptation to scrap reading my Bible when I get overwhelmed with work is something I struggle with all.the.time. Yet, I never regret it when I do. God is faithful to show up when we display even the smallest amount of obedience or desire to know Him through his word. 🤍 Do you struggle with this too?

Todays episode with is such a good one! We chat about how her art degree influences her work, loneliness when we run our own businesses, and leaning into God’s provision when we trust him and let go of control. If you (like me) are someone who struggles with the pressure that everything is up to you, I think you’ll love this conversation.🌸 Links in stories to the episode.

In my business, I don’t offer shortened hourly wedding coverage for my clients. 🤯 While that may seem controversial in the wedding industry, I have two very good reasons why I don’t.
1. I realized that clients were rushing through the best day of their life *because of me.* They simply were choosing something that didn’t cost them as much money, but actually cost them quite a bit in the long run by having an experience that wasn’t as enjoyable. When you try to cram 12 hours of a wedding day into 6 hours of coverage, it leads to a rushed and stressful experience for everyone. *It wasn’t what was best for my clients.*

2. I found that because clients aren’t wedding experts (and why should they be?), they sometimes won’t make the best choice- simply because they don’t have the knowledge and experience that we have. They think 6 hours of coverage is fine, *because they don’t know any better.* It’s our job as the experts to protect them from choosing poorly. When they trust our advice, it really does work out for the best.

Isn’t that just like us and God?
We choose something that we think costs us less, but isn’t best for us. We try to rush through the journey that is meant to be savored. We make choices without consulting the One who has much more knowledge than we will ever have. Sometimes God does not give us what we want because He knows it actually isn’t good for us at all. Instead, we need to trust what He says as true and right.🤍 Share if you needed this reminder today.

The last name Jesus calls himself in the Bible is ‘the bright morning star.’ This star, which only appears when night is at its darkest hour, ushers in the light of dawn. When things seem at their worst, take heart that God is still at work. 🤍

On this week’s episode, Grace talked about how God was the ultimate provider for her, not her business. That really stuck with me and had me thinking: when we are striving and feeling the weight of doing everything ourselves, we can rely on the One who has already taken care of it. God has proven time and time again that He is the one who provides and sustains. Whether that is as monumental as providing for our sin on the cross, or as simple as providing us clients, He’s got it covered. 🤍

Last weekend at church, the sermon talked about how the crowd’s expectations of Jesus didn’t match up with the reality of who He really is. The crowd wanted a warrior king to overthrow Rome…Jesus was showing them that he was a gentle and humble Savior. Are our own perceptions of Jesus based on past experiences (good or bad), or on what other people tell us He is like? Or are they based on the truth of who He has revealed himself to be in His word? Take some time this week to refresh your heart and mind on who Jesus really is and what He has done for us. 🤍

I could say so much about this, because it applies in every single aspect of our lives. We see evidence of boundaries being a blessing all the way back in Eden, where God set up a boundary to protect Adam and Eve. The consequences of breaking it broke all of creation and our connectedness with God. I can see boundaries as blessings in parenting all the time- we set limits on what our kids can do for their safety and out of love for them. Why is it harder to see the good when the boundary is being given to us? Friends, God is no different. He gives us boundaries out of love. When he says we need a day of rest, believe him. When he stops us from getting something we think we want, trust him. When he reminds us we can’t do it all, lean on him. 🤍
