FRIDAY MORNING UPDATE: Kandrive.gov is showing snow-covered highways throughout southeast Kansas. The snow is expected to move out of our region in a few hours, and KDOT crews will be out working until the roadways are clear. If you don't need to travel, please stay home. If you must be out and about, drive with extreme caution and stay well behind the snowplows.

Chanute’s revised trash pickup schedule for the week of Jan. 6th.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 3, 2025

Due to freezing weather conditions, the City of Chanute is rescheduling this week’s trash pickup routes to ensure the safety of residents and city employees.

***Please note that there will be no trash collections on Monday, January 6, or Tuesday, January 7. ****

The revised schedule for the rest of the week is as follows:

• Monday routes will be collected on Wednesday, January 8

• Tuesday and Wednesday routes will be collected on Thursday, January 9

• Thursday and Friday routes will be collected on Friday, January 10

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to maintain services during this period of inclement weather.

Neosho County Road and Bridge Department is announcing the closure of the Neosho River Bridge, on Elk Rd, approximately 2 miles north of Chanute, on September 27th, 2024. The new bridge replacement project is scheduled to start in early October, 2024. Elk Rd, will be closed to through traffic at the junction of 169 Hwy, and Elk Rd/1150th Rd, north of the Allen/Neosho County Line and at the junction of Elk Rd, and 225th Rd/Ash Grove Rd, for the duration of the project. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.

UPDATE: Trevawn Strong Jr. was located and is now safe. The Kansas AMBER alert is canceled.

🚨KANSAS AMBER ALERT - PLEASE SHARE🚨
A has been issued on behalf of the Wichita Police Department for an abducted 5-year-old boy, Trevawn Strong, Jr.

The suspect is Trevawn Strong who threatened to kill his son, stabbed his mother, and took the child. Strong is a black male, He is 30-years-old with long dark hair, facial hair, and tattoos on his arms, chest, neck and under his eye. Strong is 5 ft. 8 in. tall and weighs around 175 lbs. He was last known wearing a white t-shirt, gray shorts and red shoes.

The child was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, black shorts, black shoes, and has his hair in a ponytail.

On Sept. 11, at 6:51 p.m., the Wichita Police Department provided the following information to the KBI: At 4:56 p.m., Trevawn Strong Jr. was forcibly taken from his mother by his father, Trevawn Strong Sr., who had a knife and firearm during a domestic incident at their residence at 2025 S. Grove, Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas.

Trevawn Jr. is in imminent danger. The suspect left in a vehicle, but that vehicle has been recovered in the 1900 block of N. Woodlawn in Wichita.
