In his epic poem the Aeneid, in book IV, line 174, Virgil wrote:

Fama, malum qua non aliud velocius ullum.

To translate: ‘Rumour, than whom no other evil thing is faster.’ (Curiously, my copy of Oxford Dictionary of Proverbs (Oxford Quick Reference), edited by Jennifer Speake, has Virgil’s Latin as ‘Fama, malum qua non aliud velocius alium’, an apparent mistake which has been repeated on several quotations websites since; it really is true that rumour, or at least error, can get halfway round the world pretty quickly, especially in the modern age of the internet. I’m happy to have my own ignorance corrected on this point though.)

However, although Virgil’s line expresses the same sentiment, it’s clearly not identical to the much-quoted line. For instance, there’s no mention of boots, let alone the truth having a pair of them on. For that part, unsurprisingly, we need to come forward in time.

In 1859, we find the proverb well and truly in print in recognisable form. The preacher C. H. Spurgeon quoted it in one of his sermons:

If you want truth to go round the world you must hire an express train to pull it; but if you want a lie to go round the world, it will fly; it is as light as a feather, and a breath will carry it. It is well said in the old Proverb, ‘A lie will go round the world while truth is pulling its boots on.’

wow its really crazy the news i received again today. its truly devastating this terrible season of loss and mourning that seems to have come full circle and it has begun circling much closer to my heart. tomorrow is never promised so take all days as a blessing.

The US standard railroad gauge (distance between the rails) is 4 feet, 8.5 inches. That's an exceedingly odd number. Why was that gauge used? Well, because that's the way they built them in England, and English engineers designed the first US railroads. Why did the English build them like that? Because the first rail lines were built by the same people who built the wagon tramways, and that's the gauge they used. So, why did 'they' use that gauge then? Because the people who built the tramways used the same jigs and tools that they had used for building wagons, which used that same wheel spacing. Why did the wagons have that particular odd wheel spacing? Well, if they tried to use any other spacing, the wagon wheels would break more often on some of the old, long distance roads in England . You see, that's the spacing of the wheel ruts. So who built those old rutted roads? Imperial Rome built the first long distance roads in Europe (including England ) for their legions. Those roads have been used ever since. And what about the ruts in the roads? Roman war chariots formed the initial ruts, which everyone else had to match or run the risk of destroying their wagon wheels. Since the chariots were made for Imperial Rome , they were all alike in the matter of wheel spacing. Therefore the United States standard railroad gauge of 4 feet, 8.5 inches is derived from the original specifications for an Imperial Roman war chariot. Bureaucracies live forever. So the next time you are handed a specification/procedure/process and wonder 'What horse's as came up with this?', you may be exactly right. Imperial Roman army chariots were made just wide enough to accommodate the rear ends of two war horses. (Two horses' ases.)  Now, the twist to the story: When you see a Space Shuttle sitting on its launch pad, there are two big booster rockets attached to the sides of the main fuel tank. These are solid rocket boosters, or SRBs. The SRBs are made by Thiokol at their factory in Utah . The engineers who designed the SRBs would have preferred to make them a bit fatter, but the SRBs had to be shipped by train from the factory to the launch site. The railroad line from the factory happens to run through a tunnel in the mountains, and the SRBs had to fit through that tunnel. The tunnel is slightly wider than the railroad track, and the railroad track, as you now know, is about as wide as two horses' behinds. So, a major Space Shuttle design feature, of what is arguably the world's most advanced transportation system, was determined over two thousand years ago by the width of a horse's as. And you thought being a horse's as wasn't important? Ancient horse's as*es control almost everything. 😁

For everyone who doesn't understand how influential the traditional v**e industry has been on society. You might not like the "clouds" or the overwhelming aromas....
however, you owe the E-Liquid industry for the millions of new flavors you're enjoying since 2016 the majority of flavor recipes on the market (if not all) we created from and for the OG industry (2008-2016)

Just saying if you understand how many choices you've gotten in the last few years and flavor profiles. Historically speaking, no matter what, the original v**e industry, will be here in the SHADOWS living on secretly in nearly every product that you use. So next time you drink that beverage or eat that flavored whatever, remember the clouds that inspired it.

The next venture will not be the same Steam Industries

Our new goal is collectables, comics, and other rare or otherwise antique items

We are a long way from this goal and will more than likely be locating to a brick and mortar with an online store, or possibly Ebay links through a webpage or sm update

We have very fond memories of the majority of advocates in the industry. When we originally closed it was because the industry had already made it nearly impossible to be anything more than a hype store, online was terrible marketing wholesale prices to consumers. And the industry kept following salt ni****ne (ni****ne sulfate) and a variety of unregulated synthetic ni****ne products.

The cannabis industry/head shops are just filled with bu****it, and high dollar s**t that cost nothing, people aren't understanding all the snake oil people are being sold , and bad synthetic or caustically processed stuff.

We also have decided that we will never sell Chinese imports ever again. It's a bad idea
