Accomplishment of a lifetime. I shot what was a 200+ inch giant with my bow on public land with my sister from the ground at 12 yards. I will have to get him officially scored but we taped him at 196 and 3/8 inches with 20 scorable points and had 2 points and roughly 15 inches broken off.

South Dakota finally released tournament results. This was one of the toughest fisheries I’ve been on along with it being the most sketch river I’ve been on in a boat. Strongest river current in the country with lots of sand banks to get hung up on if you’re not familiar with the area. We seen many boats get stuck. My practice partner Zark and I got hung up once and luckily got out pretty easy once joe jumped in 😂. My day 1 boater and I also got stuck and Tyler was kind enough to not have me get in and help push us out and lucked out being able to plow our way out 🤯.
This was a co-angler and boater event. Where non boaters got paired with boaters that were fishing for another state. Boaters weighed their best 5 bass against the other boaters and co-anglers weighed their top 5 bass against the other co’s. On day 1 of the event Tyler and I found a good smally bite off the river and in the lake where I was able to get my limit and add a solid smallmouth and largemouth to my bag. These smallmouth and largemouth were some pi**ed off fish at this event if you could get on them. They hit hard and fought good with your average bass being around that 2lb mark. A big bass in this fishery is 3-4 pounds. Day 1 I fished pretty good and was able to pull 4th place overall and 2nd for the Iowa division but on Day 2 I just couldn’t keep the momentum going and rly struggled. A combination of bad decisions on what I was throwing and a couple lost bass cost me a check in this event. My Day 2 boater was an incredible fisherman and at no fault of his own I just couldn’t catch the bag I needed. It can be hard fishing behind such a good fisherman that don’t usually miss a bite lol I’m still proud of myself for being new to tournament bass fishing and this being my first year fishing at this level. Day 1 I was in fourth but fell back and finished in 10th place on day 2 overall and held 4th place for the Iowa division… Our own Jamie Taylor was able to catch the W… Congrats Jamie Taylor and looking forward to watching you get on em at nationals!

Had a great time in NY as usual! Was able to go fish with my cousins at my favorite place to catch smallmouth near the St Lawrence. I always learn so much from fishing with them and look forward to applying what I learn to the lakes that I typically fish.

Got out with some buddies I haven’t seen in a long time and I was also able to take my mom, sister and her bf Simeon to some other bays around Lake Ontario and had a great time. It was a great feeling being able to get everyone on some good fish and able to catch some biggens!!! Now back to Iowa and prepping for this tournament on the Missouri River in Springfield, South Dakota this coming Saturday and Sunday. Headed up Wednesday to get some practice in and hopefully put something together I can feel confident in 🤞🏼

Only had one trap left in the ground this past week and it produced last night! Coyote #14 pretty female. It’s been a great season. I know I could have gotten more if I put in the extra work but man this stuff takes a lot of time and dedication trappin ain’t easy! Thanks everyone for following along and now it’s time to get ready for Bass season baby!!!!

I still can’t believe I passed this buck multiple times everywhere from 30-40 yards with my bow and 50 yards with my gun. Don’t be like me I’m an idiot lol i thought he was a 4yr old and was trying to only shoot 5+yr old bucks. I no longer care about all that bc in my opinion it just takes the fun out of deer hunting. I missed out on an opportunity of a lifetime for myself. Watching a buck for a couple years and then turn into this stud but not harvest him bc he wasn’t “fully mature”. This buck has now been MIA for two seasons. If I’ve learned anything over the years it’s hunt your own hunt and don’t worry about what other people are doing or saying. Not everyone is playing on the same field or has the same opportunities. I had some fantasy idea that I can shoot a 170/180 every year if I just hold out but you can’t hunt what’s not there and I would be more than happy to shoot a 160 class buck like this one here. At this particular time I had never even had an opportunity on a buck of this caliber 🤦🏼‍♂️ however this has always been a trait of mine. Even in NY I was passing rly good bucks bc I just have a hard time letting an arrow fly or pulling the trigger and ending my season bc I just love to be out there hunting and dreaming of a giant. However I’ve got to stop putting in so much work to just let great opportunities slip through my fingers. Idk if anyone else can relate to this but if you do just have fun out there and try not to let the thought of what others may think of your buck affect the deer you end up shooting.
The 23/24 season has now come to an end but I’m looking forward to what the 24/25 season will bring. From what I’ve seen this season I have a lot to look forward to!
