If you've followed me for awhile, you know I am not a nasty person.
Right? 😆
I can be, if I choose to be, but it's not my standard at least. SMH
Tonight at practice, the one dad said to me OUT OF NOWHERE that he thought Alex did badly this weekend when the coach put him in to play 1st base.... and said if he would have played like that himself he would have left devastated.
Wtf?! 😑 I could feel my face turning red by the second but telling myself to stop! ✋️
Then he went on to say he thinks the coach felt obligated to play both our boys this past weekend during the 13u tournament.
I don't think he meant for it to come off the way it did, but WHOA.
I was just shocked... it was one of those socially awkward moments that I try to avoid.
Now i actually like this dad/mom combo, so I only commented about Alex and didn't mention their son at all.
Because WHO talks badly about someone's else's kid like that?! 🤔
Firstly, there was no obligation. I had several conversations with the coach about no obligation to play Alex over a 13u player. EVER!
I wouldn't want their parents to feel bad bc their sons were benched for our boys.
Been there. Know how it feels.
But this weekends game was only 9 players on Saturday... half 13u and half 12u. We even had a player get sick, so he called another of his other 13u players to join us.
The coach actually had 2 different 13u tournaments and teams playing last weekend. One was a full team of 13u, with 13 players.
And then it was our team of 9, which was 4 12u and 5 13u.
Anyway...
All I said back to this dad was the coach knew there was no obligation to play Alex as 1st base, and he had actually never even practiced playing 1st base during field practice before coach put him in.... alex had only been practicing "picking". The coach hadn't mentioned anything about putting him in yet so we were shocked he even played him in that position.
But here's when I went on... and why its important to at least stand up for your kiddo.
I said, for only playing first base for the first time, I think he did well overall. He played for 2 innings and even though he had 4 errors, he did get 5 of the 6 outs during those innings. 🖕💥
Of his 4 errors, there were 3 runs scored.
But the team lost by 12 points so its not like it was Alex's errors that lost the entire game. Thank goodness.
Other players had errors also and gloves werent ready, and bats weren't connecting to get our team runs.
I can't imagine singling one player out and verbally saying out loud that kid did a bad job as a parent. 😳
So of the 9 balls that were hit or thrown his way, he at least got more than 50%.
1st base gets a lot more action than outfield right now too! 😚
Then I said Alex actually left the game thrilled with the day and how he played overall.
Which isn't that what matters?!
What I didnt say to him.... was his son wouldn't have done any better. 🙃🙄
During Saturday's games, his son actually had the opportunity to catch 6 balls in the outfield and instead the other team scored 6 singles and a double because of his missed opportunities.
But that would just be mean, right?! Lol.
Kind of like him saying what he said about Alex to me.
I'm just going to leave this here and forget about it.
Assuming he didnt intend for it to come out the way it did. 🫠
