January 25 is Burns Supper Night, celebrating the life and legacy of Scottish poet, Robert Burns. His lyrics and poetry transcend the centuries, and his themes of equality, justice, and the life of the common man still resonate across the world today. You can find a Burns Supper anywhere there is a Scottish heritage and a love of good music, good food, and strong whiskey.

It's the first week of January, which means Winter is in full swing, and folks just might be starting to second-guess their New Year's resolutions and awkward New Year's Eve party flings. The FairPlé movement was started by a group of women performers in Ireland to promote the equal representation of women artists on stage and on the radio. As Niamh Parsons once told us in an interview, more girls than boys learn traditional instruments, but more men wind up on stage and the airwaves.

In Mid-October, Scotland hosts the Royal National Mòd, an international celebration of Scottish culture, the Gàidhlig language, and traditional music. Based on the Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Cymru in Wales, this festival features stringent competitions in poetry, storytelling, and music, encouraging the growth of the Scots Gaelic language. Traditional Celtic Music from Western Nevada and the High Sierra

High Country Celtic Radio is a weekly, one-hour Celtic Music program featuring the traditional music of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Brittany, Northern Spain, and the Isle of Man performed by artists across the world. Played on stations across the country, our show is a great addition to a non-commercial station looking to add a curated Celtic music show with male and female hosts.

High Country Celtic Radio strives for gender equality in our show’s playlists to give equal play to women artists in the spirit of the FairPlé movement. We self-rate our inclusiveness for each weeks’ show by calculating a “FairPlé score” where our goal is 40-60, showing a balanced blend of music performed by women or bands where women make up around half the group.

Would you like to get your Traditional Celtic music played on our show? We focus on acoustic Irish, Scottish, Breton, Welsh, Manx, and Galician/Asturian music, and we are always eager to audition new music and give it a spin on the air. Once we receive music, it may take two or three weeks to get it into rotation, as we usually record our shows in advance.
