Our feature this month is Sandra Stillwell. She retired in September after devoting the last 16 years as director of the Temple Senior Center.

Under her leadership, the Senior Center grew immensely, offering day trips and international travel, low-cost daily meals and numerous activities for seniors.

On page 10, learn more about Sandra and her dedication to helping senior citizens live purposeful lives.

During the downpours of Hurricane Helene, Roopville resident, Rusty Church, was helping someone with plumbing issues when his prosthetic leg broke.

Rusty didn't let the loss of his prosthetic slow him down. So he could continue to work to support his family, Rusty made his own prosthetic out of PVC pipe and plumbing supplies.

We're certainly hoping for a Christmas miracle for Rusty! You can help Rusty get a new prosthetic leg by donating here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/3qurd2-help-rusty-get-a-new-prosthetic-leg

Inside, you’ll learn about The Real Theatre's 2025 schedule of events, spicing up your holiday décor with simple throw pillows, teaching your kids to be grateful, Christmas tree alternatives and much more, including Chef Rose Isaacs' delicious recipes.

Carroll EMC Prepares for Hurricane Season

Carroll Electric Membership Cooperative (EMC) is monitoring the development and movement of a potential hurricane off the Gulf Coast. Forecasts anticipate the system to make landfall as early as the end of the week, affecting Georgia and its EMCs. The cooperative has a long history of dealing with storm-related outages and is prepared should outages occur across its seven-county footprint.

In preparation for such situations, Carroll EMC employees recently participated in an annual disaster training day, where they worked through storm scenarios to test the effectiveness of the cooperative’s emergency response plan. In addition to extensive employee training, Carroll EMC maintains a large network of electric cooperatives, contractors and vendors throughout the state and region that are willing to help with repairs and supply materials should the need become that great.
The cooperative encourages Members to ensure their emergency kits are stocked with updated essentials including water, batteries and medications. Make sure to charge electronic devices prior to a known storm and have an alternate power source, like a generator, if you have medical, life-sustaining equipment.

Download Carroll EMC’s free Outage Pal app to easily report an outage, see a comprehensive outage map and receive notifications of the status of power at your home. Remember to stay clear of any downed power lines, as they might still be energized. For more information and preparedness tips, visit carrollemc.com/stormcenter.

During any type of storm, Carroll EMC will maintain communications with its Members and local community through a variety of channels, including social media, radio, website and more.

Carroll EMC is a Member-owned cooperative providing electricity to approximately 50,000 homes and businesses. The co-op serves Members in Carroll, Haralson, Heard, Paulding, Polk, Floyd and Troup counties. This institution is an equal opportunity provider and employer. For more information visit the cooperative’s website at carrollemc.com or follow Carroll EMC on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, Instagram and LinkedIn. Carroll EMC: Community Built. Join 3:16 Healthcare in person or virtually via Facebook live for its upcoming vaccine seminar, that will take place at the 3:16 Community Center in Bremen today, September 23rd at 4pm. Attend virtually here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1217997849354134/?acontext=%7B%22event_action_history%22%3A[]%7D

One of the key topics they will be discussing is the rising rate of declined vaccinations for children. With misinformation and myths spreading rapidly, it is more important now than ever for parents and caregivers to be educated about the benefits and importance of vaccinations.

During the seminar, attendees will have the opportunity to learn crucial information, participate in a Q&A session, and receive valuable education about vaccinations. Their goal is to provide parents and caregivers with the tools they need to make informed decisions when it comes to protecting their children's health.

3:16 Healthcare believes that by making this information readily available and easily accessible, they can help increase vaccination rates and ultimately contribute to a healthier community.
