In our Winter edition, we dive into the history of Mexican-American baseball thanks to Carpinterian Al Orozco’s family connection to some of the Latino leagues’ biggest bats. Al’s family members played in an era when skin tones darker than white were ineligible for the major leagues. Thank you, Al, for sharing your memories and memorabilia.

“On a windy day, let’s go on flying.
There may be no trees to rest on,
There may be no clouds to ride.
But we’ll have our wings and the wind will be with us,
That’s enough for me,
That’s enough for me.”

While we wait patiently for our Winter edition to finish printing, we’re flipping through the fun features you’ll be feasting on soon. The photos above are from our friend Alonzo Orozco whose family holds a special place in Latino baseball history. Perhaps more importantly, his family preserved an archive of baseball artifacts that has helped Latin-Americans receive the recognition they deserve for their role in baseball history. Peter Dugre’s story says it best, and you’ll have it in front of you soon!
