At just before 1AM on September 4, 2024, WSFD crews were dispatched to a commercial structure fire on the 1200 block of Halyard Drive, with numerous 911 callers reporting smoke and flames from the rear of the Radisson Hotel. The first arriving WSFD crews encountered heavy smoke and fire from the first and second floors of the vacant hotel, with fire through the roof, and a defensive posture was taken. Due to the large size of the building, the exposures threatened, and the volume of fire, a second alarm commercial response was requested, which brought additional engines and trucks from neighboring agencies, including the Sacramento, Woodland, UC Davis, and Davis fire departments. The fire was brought under control around 5AM, and crews will remain on scene for several additional hours extinguishing hot spots. No injuries occurred during this fire, and the cause and origin are under investigation.
