Quick Thoughts on

+ Women's War Games was a ton of fun and as expected had a ton of weapons and high spots. It's probably my biggest gripe of modern War Games matches (not just a WWE thing), like just have a match where you're beating the crap out of each other.

+ Finn Balor-AJ Styles was probably the match of the night. Very solid storytelling and it didn't drag on. Now let AJ move on from this story.

- Ronda-Shotzi existed and I didn't care at all. Clunky at spots and just felt like a filler arc.

+ Austin Theory sponsored by Beyblade

+++ US Title Triple Threat was crazy good and I liked the finish.

+ Bloodline vs Brutes, McIntyre, and KO was good just felt like it dragged on. That said I liked the finish and how Sami firmly established himself as Team Bloodline by taking out Kevin Owens

Instant Thoughts on AEW Full Gear

+ Best Friends-The Factory was just a fun little comedy match that didn't overstay it's welcome

+ Brian Cage-Ricky Starks was solid. Starks crushed it in the babyface role against the larger Cage. His match with Ethan Page on Dynamite should be a banger.

++ Eddie Kingston-Jun Akiyama absolutely rocked! It's hilarious how Eddie hasn't really been pushed since his incident with Sammy Guevara and he just gets to wrestle bangers with Japanese wrestling legends on the pre-show. More of that please.

+ Luchasaurus-Jungle Boy was a great main card opener. Jungle Jack getting busted open early was a great element of drama and he was tremendous fighting from underneath.

- A steel cage match having a chunk of the match outside of the ring kinda defeats the purpose of the cage, right?

+ Elite-Death Triangle match was fantastic (Carry On My Wayward Son as their entrance music was a pleasant surprise). Just a batcrap crazy trios match and left some intriguing stories on the table down the road with Rey Fenix not wanting to cheat initally.

- Wait this is a best-of-seven series now? I don't get it.

- Jade Cargill-Nyla Rose was your typical Jade Cargill match. Fine but nothing more than that and on a card filled with great to amazing matches, it felt like a comedown match.

++ ROH Title four-way was complete chaos and some amazing spots throughout (the Judas Effect while Claudio was doing the Giant Swing was pretty cool but clunky).

- They're gonna turn Sammy babyface again, aren't they?

+ Britt-Saraya was a really good first match back for the former Paige in WWE. Storytelling was there and we didn't get a second of interference so that's a big plus.

+ Samoa Joe winning the TNT title was a big surprise (kinda thought Hobbs would win in his Buzz Lightyear gear). Very good hoss fight and now we have Joey Two Belts.

+ Sting and Darby vs Lethal and Jarrett was tons of fun from the second the match started. First off, JJ looks fantastic at his age. Typical AEW Sting match but I love those kind of matches. Darby doing the guitar shot no-sell was amazing!

+ Really liked the match between Toni and Jamie. Absolute belter of a match.

- Loved seeing Hayter win but I'd much rather have her win it clean instead of having tons of interference. Give Jamie her moment in the sun and keep Britt far away from the title.

++ Acclaimed-Swerve III kicked ass and the stories being told were tremendous. Keith Lee walking out on Swerve felt like a good way to end the partnership instead of the classic post-match breakup. Now we can see the Limitless one reach his full potential.

+++ MJF is the AEW champion and it's about damn time! Regal turning on Mox felt obvious but it worked and now we get heel Regal along with the biggest heel in the industry. I feel like we've got a long title reign coming.

Instant thoughts on AEW All Out

+ Zero Hour was really good - Ishii-Kingston is something you have to see. Two dudes just assaulting each other for fifteen minutes

+ Casino Ladder Match was a lot of good fun and then they decided to get a little too cute with The Joker being the winner but no one knew who it was and took the crowd out of it

++ Elite-Dark Order got them right back in it though with a Match of the Year contender. Also convinced that Adam Page is the main character of AEW

+ Jade Cargill-Athena was fine as a comedown match. Cargill went full She-Hulk but they couldn't say who she was paying homage to since y'know lawsuits

+ Wardlow-FTR vs Lethal and MCMG was great. Then Dax's daughter pinned Sonjay Dutt and became even better

- Hobbs-Starks had some of the best storytelling leading into this and they get five minutes? AEW needs to start booking less matches because it hurts some of the stories we're invested in.

++ Swerve In Our Glory-Acclaimed was a banger. Anthony Bowens says it all the time but The Acclaimed arrived tonight

+ The Women's Four Way was good and had us invested that Jamie Hayter would win by turning on her friend Britt Baker. Wasn't the case but still tons of fun.

-- Jungle Boy-Christian Cage was the worst match of the night because it wasn't really a match. Luchasaurus worked him too for some reason

+ House of Black-Sting, Miro and Darby was fun trios match that might be the last time Malakai is a part of AEW (if you read the sheets)

+ Mox-Punk delivered but still made zero sense why they blew their wad early with the unification match on Dynamite in Cleveland.

+++ MJF IS BACK!!!!!

Delayed Clash at the Castle thoughts (12 pm start time on a college football Saturday? definitely delayed)

+ Didn't see the pre-show match outside of the doomsday blockbuster to the outside spot and that's enough to be a positive

+ Fun opening six-woman tag team match. Bayley heeling it up while the UK fans were doing the classic "Hey Bayley" chants was great and then she pinned the women's champ to further the story.

+ Michael Cole on commentary was fantastic throughout but him acknowledging the past that Iyo Sky and Asuka have as part of Triple Tails was a great touch (Cole a low-key Joshi fan?). Also acknowledging referees by name was a great touch.

++ Gunther-Sheamus absolutely ruled. These two beat the holy hell out of each other and it felt like a vintage Pro Wrestling Noah match with all the brutal chops

+ Edge and Mysterio vs The Judgment Day was solid and was genuinely surprised they beat Balor and Priest with some bo****ks but still told a good story.

- Dominik turning heel was good, but it felt so out of place to me. Could have done that during the match not after.

+ Liv Morgan-Shayna Baszler was good and really showed how Liv is evolving her game.

++ Riddle-Rollins on any other card would be match of the night and they brought it in this blood feud. The fact this didn't start with a collar and elbow tie-up had me hooked.

+ BROKEN DREAMS (before Drew's actual entrance)

+ Main event was an Attitude Era match in 2022 with chaos in the final like five minutes. Also Austin Theory needs to run with the Sean Stasiak MITB gimmick and keep trying to cash it in but something keeps happening that keeps him from actually doing it.

- What was the actual point of Drew singing with Tyson Fury to end the show after losing the most important match of his career?!

+ This menace to society's T-Shirt (pictured below) showing up on camera and it's still up on the replay hahahahaha

Delayed SummerSlam Thoughts

+ Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch told a great story and the end of this year-long angle ended the right way with the two having respect for each other.

++ Bayley is back! Also Dakota Kai and Io Shirai (Iyo Sky now apparently so that'll take some time to get used to). I wondered aloud who was left for Bianca to face and now we have a pretty interesting women's division on Raw

+ Dammit Logan Paul is so good I don't have bad things to say. World champ in three years calling it now.

- Mysteios-Judgment Day was fine. Glad that Edge is back, just please take Other Side away from Judgement Day since Edge isn't the leader anymore

+ McAfee-Corbin was sloppy at points but seeing Bum Ass Corbin lose is enough to make it a positive for me.

+ Usos-Street Profits was way shorter than I thought it'd be. Still a good match, just wish Profits would have won

- Liv Morgan-Ronda Rousey was the worst match on the card for several reasons with the biggest being the fact that it pretty much ruined any credibility of Morgan as a champ with a dusty finish. Only positive is that Ronda is a heel.

+++ Roman-Brock didn't have a match of the year candidate but they did have the best Last Man Standing match ever because of the chaos throughout! Like Brock lifted up the ring with a damn tractor!!!

Death Before Dishonor Thoughts

+ Bold move to put the World Championship match as the opening contest. That said, Claudio and Gresham tore it up and put on an a hell of a match to get the crowd into it.

+ Claudio winning the ROH World Championship is long overdue and so happy to see it.

+ Six-Man title match was genuinely surprising with Dalton and The Boys beating the Righteous to become the new champs. Dalton's boys did a great job fighting from underneath.

+ Wheeler Yuta-Daniel Garcia could have been a few minutes longer, but was still an outstanding match. The fact we only had one rope break used in the match was really cool compared to some of the other Pure Championship matches we've seen since the title was re-introduced.

+ RUSH-Dragon Lee is going to go down as a hidden gem on this card. It'll be interesting how RUSH does Wednesday for the AEW Interim title against Moxley.

- Serena Deeb-Mercedes Martinez was fine, just a little disappointed with the end result. It just felt like it was time for Deeb to really elevate the women's division in ROH.

+ Samoa Joe-Jay Lethal was really good! It felt like a tad overbooked but you kinda expected it with Satnam Singh and Sonjay Dutt playing a role.

+ FTR-Briscoes II was the match of the year and I don't think there's much that can top what they did in the ring. Tag team wrestling has gotten so much better in the last five years and this is a sign that tag teams can main event a card and more importantly sell PPVs.

Instant thoughts on AEW and New Japan's Forbidden Door

+ Considering all the injuries and changes to the card, both companies delivered in a big way!

+ ZSJ-Claudio may have been the best technical match of the year and is one of my absolute favorites. Also, love the fact that Eddie Kingston has to team with him at Blood and Guts on Wednesday.

+ Orange Cassidy-Will Ospreay absolutely over-delivered on my expectations and will go down as the best match of Cassidy's career. Also, Shibata showing up unannounced was sick.

+ IWGP World Title match slapped and give a ton of credit to Adam Cole for working the way he did with his shoulder injury and hopefully he takes a long break after that match.

+ Bullet Club-Dudes with Attitudes match was just good fun. Sting at 63 years old diving off the stage was the highlight of the night.

+ All-Atlantic Championship being won by PAC caught me off guard but it's absolutely well-deserved.

+ Mox-Tanahashi was tremendous and had the fans get super into it especially when it looked like the Ace was about to win the belt

- Thunder Rosa-Toni Storm was a good match that felt like it never hit that next level. Enjoyable but could've gone a few more minutes.

- Why do that post-match brawl after the main event? This is probably the biggest thing AEW does wrong when you could've ended the show with Mox and Tanahashi showing each other respect

IT'S STING!!!!

LOUISIANA COMIC CONVENTION
OCTOBER 1-2, 2022
GUEST SPOTLIGHT: STING
SATURDAY ONLY APPEARANCE

Often dubbed “The Franchise of WCW,” the man called Sting is one of the most recognizable and unique faces in sports-entertainment history. It was that distinction that made him the backbone of the Atlanta-based organization throughout the late 1980s until the end of WCW in 2001.

He is regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, having cultivated a legacy over a career spanning more than three decades with CWA, UWF, NWA, WCW, TNA, and WWE. He continues his amazing career today, now with AEW, and he has become The Icon - an influence on countless numbers of wrestlers and fans all over the world.

From an interview with Sports Illustrated in May 2021:
“I appreciate the fans every day,” said Sting. “Every time I came back to WWE, either on Raw or a pay-per-view, and now with AEW, hearing the crowd, I marvel over the way they care about me. I’m very grateful for it, it means the world to me. And it goes both ways—I love those fans, too. I’m thankful that God has given me the ability to do this, even now at this age, and I appreciate the fact that fans still love it. And I plan on delivering for them on Sunday.”

Instant WWE Hell In a Cell thoughts

+ Raw Women's Title Triple Threat was a fantastic opener - great ending with Bianca stealing the win from Becky Lynch.

+ MVP-Omos vs Lashley was fine and I liked the use of Cedric Alexander in the finish as well as how they are having Cedric become his own man in a backstage segment later in the show

- Kevin Owens-Ezekiel should have been on Raw tbh

- Corbin-Moss was good, just didn't care enough about it.

+ Austin Theory and Mustafa Ali put on a solid match that felt it could've gone a few minutes longer.

+ Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins put on an instant classic (no surprise there)

+ Credit to both for putting together a really good match considering that Rhodes was dealing with a right pectoral injury when they could've scrapped the main event of the show or changed it around.

- NO FIEND
