Due to the possibility of inclement weather, including dangerous lightning, the Canon City Police Dept has decided to CANCEL the National Night Out event this evening at Macon Plaza. It was a difficult decision, but we wanted to err on the side of safety. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We still encourage you to get to know your neighbors, take precautions to keep yourselves and your property safe and report any suspicious activity. STAY SAFE!

Sometimes life throws you a curveball... and sometimes that curveball is a knock-out right to the face. Our curveball this week came in the form of taking out our entire cast with whatever "ick" is going around. With this in mind, we are disheartened to have to announce that Artists in Bloom is CANCELLED due to illness. We are currently working on a new date with The Rialto and will announce that info when we have it. For now, if you purchased tickets, whether online or at a ticket outlet, you will be refunded. Details on how to get your refund will be posted soon. Thank you all for your support of local theater in Fremont County! We'll be back soon! Stay healthy♡

Over the last several weeks the Canon City Police Department (CCPD) has experienced a significant increase in vehicle trespass complaints resulting in personal property losses. The thefts include a wide array of personal belongings including but not limited to phones, keys and key fobs, credit/debit cards, cash and change, and fi****ms. The theft of these fi****ms like many of the other vehicle break-ins were reportedly from unlocked vehicles in most cases. In most cases the fi****ms being left were an oversight or the owners were not certain if they were locked but, in those instances, there were no signs of forced entry.

The criminal suspects have escalated over the last few weeks targeting known law enforcement vehicles in our community with fi****ms that were secured in locked racks. Chief Schick offered that he is very concerned for both the citizens and his officers at this point because we now have reason to believe that the suspects are armed. And as such these property crimes can now quickly escalate into crimes of violence.

Chief Schick is asking the community to be sure and lock their vehicles and remove anything of value inside with you. If you are out and about it is also a good practice to conceal any items left in your secured vehicles so that criminals can’t see the valuables in your car, removing the temptation for the criminal offenders.

Additionally, the PD is asking that you call and report anything out of the ordinary in your neighborhood day or night. Would be offenders might be in your neighborhoods searching for opportunities to come back to later. This is particularly true for anyone that you see in communities at odd hours of the evening or early morning hours. Chief Schick added that if you see anyone in your neighborhood, particularly during these hours, call and report them, please do not approach them to investigate it yourself they could be armed and violent.

If anyone has any information about these crimes, they are asked to either contact Detective Kyle Hance at 1-719-429-0379 or Crime Stoppers at 1-719-275-STOP. Tipsters providing information through the P3 App which lead to an arrest could be eligible for a cash award from both Crime Stoppers ($1000) and CCPD ($500).
