Hoop there it is! Scenes from last weekend's Nothing But Net 3 on 3 Tournament centered around Wait Park in downtown Canby. This nonprofit community effort led by Advantage Mortgage, Inc. Nmls #1770599, with the help of Rotary Club of Canby and many sponsors, is a great time for the many young athletes, teams and coaches who take part. Scenes from the Iwo Jima Commemoration at the Canby Adult Center, hosted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Canby/Aurora Post and Auxiliary 6057 on the 79th anniversary of the battle last Saturday, February 17.

Iwo Jima was one of the bloodiest battles of World War II, particularly for the U.S. Marine Corps, which lost almost 7,000 men in 36 days of fierce fighting. Those in attendance this year included local World War II Navy atomic veteran Arbie Irwin.

According to the tradition, Irwin and other veterans, along with family members and dignitaries, sprinkled packets of black sand from the island on the rock at the Canby Adult Center that is dedicated to those who fought at Iwo Jima.
