Cancellations and Revisions

* All A 5th Region Basketball Tournament

o The Lady Eagles and Eagles semi-final game scheduled for Thursday night has been postponed. CHS will now play the winner of Ft Knox and Bethlehem (they are playing Thursday) on Friday, weather permitting. Washington Co is the host for the semi-finals and finals.

* Archery Tournament

o The archery tournament scheduled for this weekend has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for Jan 31 and Feb 1

* Girl-Boy Basketball Doubleheader with Taylor Co

o Due to TC girls participating in the 2A state the games at CHS will be cancelled for Jan 17th and have been rescheduled for Monday January 27th

* CHS Boys Basketball Adds game

o The Eagles will now host WEB DeBois on Friday night, Jan 17th in a JV-Varsity doubleheader.

Kentucky State Police Pursuit Ends in Arrest of Adair County Man

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. (January 7, 2025) - Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 15 Troopers arrested an Adair County man last night on drug trafficking charges after a vehicle pursuit.

On January 6, 2025, at 10:26 P.M. EST, a KSP Trooper attempted to perform a traffic stop on a 2018 Ford Escape on Blue Hole Road in Taylor County for a traffic violation. The vehicle did not stop when the Trooper activated his emergency equipment, and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit continued onto Crooked Creek Road in Adair County, concluding when the vehicle left the roadway and entered a field. Upon termination of the vehicle pursuit, the operator exited the vehicle and fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, Troopers apprehended the individual, identified as Bradley Streeval, 46, of Knifley.

Bradley Steeval was arrested and lodged in the Taylor County Detention Center. Mr. Steeval was charged with the following charges:

Fleeing or Evading Police - 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)
Fleeing or Evading Police - 1st Degree (On Foot)
Trafficking Controlled Substance - 1st Degree (Methamphetamine)
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
Wanton Endangerment - 1st Degree (Police Officer) (4 Counts)
Criminal Mischief - 2nd Degree
Speeding 26 or More Over Speed Limit
No Seat Belt
And other traffic violations

The case remains under investigation by Trooper Daniel Smith. Trooper Smith was assisted by other KSP Troopers, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, Taylor County Sheriff’s Office and the Adair County Sheriff’s Office.

Campbellsville man arrested for attempted murder of sheriff

A Campbellsville man was arrested on Saturday after shooting at Taylor County Sheriff Dickie Benningfied, leaving bullet holes in the sheriff's vehicle.
According to a criminal news release, Cody Laytart, 31, is charged with attempted murder of a peace officer, resisting arrest, assault third degree police officer, alcohol intoxication in a public place, violation of conditions of release, criminal mischief second degree, and terroristic threatening in the second degree.
Deputies were dispatched to Pops Road in Campbellsville, responding to a complaint that Laytart had shot at a man.
Sheriff Benningfield arrived first on the scene and was speaking to the caller when four shots rang out. Deputy Josh Durbin arrived on the scene and heard the fourth shot. Durbin and Benningfield located four bullet holes in the rear of the sheriff’s vehicle.
Deputies located Laytart and placed him into custody. He threatened them with physical harm and death, and then spit in Durbin’s face. He kicked the back glass of the cruiser window and knocked it off the track.
Laytart had violated conditions of his release from the last time he was incarcerated.
Kentucky State Police is investigating the case.
As of Dec. 16, Laytart was held without bond.
