Here's some quick insight into how we prepared for the social media campaign we made for Indigenous Business Group and this year's Indigenous Business Conference.

First, we started out with making a small, but sturdy, style guide. We used the already branded colors for IBG to make different patterns and gradients to add more stylization and texture to the designs.

For our designs, we wanted to focus on keeping things feeling fresh and modern, while relying heavily on photos from the previous year's event. We wanted to highlight speakers and sponsor, so we incorporated this into our calendar schedule.

In 2017 we had the pleasure of working with Custom Canines Service Dog Academy, a service dog academy based in Madison which trains and provides service dogs to individuals with disabilities, with a particular focus on veterans and first responders. As part of some marketing we were helping with, our team had the pleasure of interviewing Executive Director Nicole Meadowcroft, along with Andy and his service dog Whiskey about his experience with having a service dog. It was a day full of Whiskey being the center of attention!

Let's talk email marketing. Constant Contact quotes this form of marketing as having a ROI yield of $36 earned for every $1 spent, on average, in 2023. However, that data is from a company who wants you to use their product, so let's see what other places are saying:

Mailercloud says that an average ROI is 3600% to 4200% (meaning $36 to $42 earned per $1 spent).
Luisa Zhou reports that smaller teams with two or less people generate $30 earned to $1 spent, but a 760% increase in revenue for anyone that started using email campaigns.
Mailerlite quotes a range of 3600% to 4400% ROI.

So far, this year has brought change, extraordinary opportunities and unparalleled access to resources for our organization. In March, Fern Orie, a founding mother of our organization, was appointed as the CEO. Throwback to when we had our wall wrapped by Red Tail Wraps. Simply wrapping a wall was a small investment for a dynamic change in our office and this wall has been talked about by everyone who stops into our office. Definitely check them out if you're looking for something to bring your transportation or office space to the next level.

Businesses have less than three seconds to capture a potential customer's attention.

Between looking at this picture and reading that sentence, it was at least three seconds, which means 40% of you stopped looking at this already.

Bounce rates for sites are exactly the same. If your site takes longer than 3 seconds to load, people dip out.

Attention spans are short. Be mindful when marketing!

What does this mean for businesses? If you're not utilizing social media, you're missing out on a major potential customer base. SEO in search engines isn't what it used to be, so getting your products and services on socials can make a world of difference.

We're prepping for Indigenous Business Group's IBC 2024, here's a little bit of what we do, which maybe you can do too:

1. Prepare for speakers & attendees: Do a little research about who's going to be there and what we can talk about with them for networking.

2. Leverage social media: Do what this post is doing and get it out there that we're going. Let people know to expect us (though most already do.)

3. Prepping for materials & technology: Make sure those business cards are packed and stacked with some extra battery packs for the camera.

Let's talk data-driven marketing. While 64% of marketing executives agree that data driven marketing is crucial, 87% say that it's also their companies' most underutilized asset, according to an article by Invesp (The Importance of Data Driven Marketing – Statistics and Trends).

Creating websites, social media calendars and email campaigns are great, however the follow through to show what is effective or not effective your target audience seems to be a bit lacking.

Where's the disconnect? Do you think data-driven marketing is important or just a sham and not worth your time?
