This little sea turtle cutie came cruising in for a closer look. And then promptly cruised away. Enjoy your Sunday everyone!

These flippers are made for swimming but first there is the sprint to the water! * mini sand dollars everywhere here!

Don’t sea turtles look like dinosaurs? 🐢🦖

Did you know that sea turtles are some of the oldest living reptiles on our planet? These magnificent creatures have been swimming the oceans for over 100 million years. ⏳

The world’s oldest fossil of a turtle was discovered off the coast of China, which was thought to date back 220 million years ago! 🦴

Sea turtles have a unique carapace that evolved over millions of years. Unlike other turtles, their shell is fused with their ribcage, providing strength and mobility. This streamlined shape reduces drag and helps them to swim efficiently in the ocean. 🌊

There are now seven different species of turtles to roam our oceans today, six of which belong to the family Cheloniidae - characterised by a well-developed, bony skull with a carapace and plastron that are fully formed of bone. 😯

The Leatherback turtle is the only species in the family Dermochelyidae - covered by oily flesh and flexible, leather-like skin, and the closest relative to the famous Archelon ischyros - the largest sea turtle to ever exist! 🤯

The Sargeant Major is a species of Damselfish. It’s small, but is absolutely fearless. It keeps everyone in check, no matter the size (divers included). It didn’t care for this Sea Turtle lounging in the surge so it gave it a wake up and got it standing at attention. Note the little fish underneath it that also pops out of no where and gets its act together too.

It’s a force field….

Newborn turtles should never be released directly into the water. Instead, they should be released on the sand to help them learn how to find the sea and recognize their birthplace. This instinctual process allows them to return to their birth beach when it’s time to breed and lay eggs, ensuring they can easily find their way home. 🐢🥰

Morning warm up….

Me, snacking through the championship games this weekend.

On a quiet beach, a baby sea turtle emerges from the sand, its tiny flippers working hard to make its way to the ocean. The journey is filled with determination as it navigates the sandy terrain, guided by the sound of the waves. Onlookers watch in awe, cheering for the little turtle as it finally reaches the water and swims away, beginning its life in the vast ocean. 🐢

I wish I could be as zen as this green turtle 💆‍♀️😴🐢

Watch as this little one gets a gentle bath scrub to stay clean and healthy, helping protect our oceans one turtle at a time. 🌊✨ These tiny creatures are vital to marine ecosystems, and every bit of care counts!

It’s the karate chop at the end for me 🥷🏽🐢

Bella tried to snack on a bristle worm and her reaction was more like a child tasting brussels sprout for the first time! The gagging, spitting it back out and slapping it down 😂

The hairs or “bristles” on the worms can pe*****te the skin and cause an uncomfortable sting. I think it’s safe to say that Bella isn’t a fan of spicy foods.

Some people ask “what is the point” or “do you really think you can make a difference?” The answer always comes back to the same thing…protecting the beauty and biodiversity of our oceans.

I am so proud to be dedicating my life to a mission to improve the health of the oceans to maintain biodiversity and unique habitats. Our world relies on the ocean for food, oxygen, climate regulation, cultural significance, and economies. Hope is the central human factor that drives missions for saving our marine life and using new technologies and methods to improve habitat quality.

So to me, when people say “do you really think you can make a difference?” It’s not a factor of whether or not I think it’s possible, it’s a matter of necessity and an absolute fact we that we need to make a difference.

It’s almost therapeutic hanging out with the tortoises, such peaceful creatures 😌
