Per Tommy Burrough, MCPS Superintendent: "As we watch daily concerning the COVID positivity rate in our county and in our schools, it is very clear that we are needing to try to intervene the spread. Today we have over 20% of our kids absent in the district either being sick, COVID positive, or quarantined. Also, due to multiple staff being out in every building and a lack of substitute teachers, starting tomorrow (Wednesday) through Friday, McLean County Schools will be participating in NTI days. Your school will reach out to you concerning your school activities. There will not be school meals served during the NTI days."

“This was a great way to end the regular season, but we aren’t finished yet,” stated Humphrey. “It was great to end with three straight shutouts. We are playing better than we have in years. If this continues, this team is ready to make noise in both the district and region tournaments.”

“It’s a very unique position that these grandparents, and even great-grandparents, find themselves in, and they don’t really have anyone that might be in a similar situation,” Glenn said. “To have this common ground, and talk about things that may only apply to this small group of people, (and) give them a safe space to talk amongst themselves, find support and have that camaraderie with people that are sharing similar experiences.”

Amanda Glenn, community education director at McLean County Public Schools, will be starting a new initiative this month for guardians that have taken on the role of a parent.

“Halloween is like the only holiday that you don’t have to get stressed about,” Blus said. “You don’t have to buy people gifts, you don’t have to worry about all that planning. It’s a holiday (where) you just get to have fun and do what you want.”

One small Facebook post asking residents to decorate pumpkins led to the first Halloween event scheduled to take place at Myer Creek Park.

“Harvest is a really simple church,” Troutman said. “We don’t do many things, and the few things we do, we try to do them with excellence. Our guiding principle is making disciples by being disciples; we call that our mission. We take that to mean that ‘disciple’ just means follower — so we want to be followers of Jesus, and we know the best way to make other disciples, which is part of the Great Commission, is to just to be obedient to Jesus’ commands; to love one another, love our neighbor as ourselves, to proclaim the good news of Jesus to our community, and to do so not only with our words, but with our actions.”

“We looked at the three examples that they gave us and we (came) up with a finalized hybrid schematic that did away with the porch area,” Dame said. “But what we did was replace it with two drive under canopies. What that will do is that it will allow citizens that tend, or go to, the senior center, to be able to unload themselves or any goods or supplies out of the weather. We didn’t have that capability before. In McLean County, when it rains, it pours.”

“We came out really hot and played a fantastic first set,” head coach Zach Hardison said. “But after that we couldn’t sustain our focus and made errors that took us out of competing down the stretch. We have recently changed several things and are dealing with injury and health issues to key pieces of our lineup. We have to find a way to sustain and keep growing until we can get them back.”

Carter said the society reached out to a number of agencies and eventually heard back from Lt. David W. Lim of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in 2009, saying that he would be honored if the county was able to acknowledge his K-9 partner Sirius.

Sirius, a bomb detection dog, was killed in 9/11 after Lim heard a bomb go off while stationed in the basement of the World Trade Center and put Sirius in his kennel in order to check out what transpired. Lim unfortunately got trapped in the falling debris of the first tower and was not able to make it back to get Sirius.

The Wooden Bridge Park in Island will be receiving a new historical addition.
