Cumberland News
John E. LePage, Jr.;

From 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, the Chandlersville Craft Bazaar will take place at 8770 Chandlersville Road (SR 146) in Chandlersville. There will be indoor and outdoor vendors, food available for purchase, a Chinese Auction, crafts, and so much more.

How many of you still have a sharp memory of the wind storm that hit seemingly without warning around 11:15 p.m. on April 15, 1993? Dubbed the “tax-day windstorm”, the storm literally blew into town waking up those already in bed and quickly drew the attention of those who were still up from whatever they were doing.
Damage in the Cumberland area included: blown out windows, toppled signs, siding popped from buildings, trees uprooted and/or snapped off, and loose items from yards and porches blown everywhere. There was also significant secondary damage from where windblown debris and falling trees unceremoniously ended their unplanned journeys.
Damage was widespread around the region. Reports of collapsed and heavily damaged barns and other buildings were received from many neighboring communities.
Even with all the storms the area has seen since, this storm is still memorable if for nothing else, the chill it sent down the spines of those who heard it arrive like a howling monster on a rampage in the night.
