Applications are now open! Apply at the link in my stories.
It’s first come, first serve so please help us spread the word to those who need immediate financial assistance.
As a new mom of 2 who had a newborn in my arms as I found out about the fires just miles from our home, I still cannot imagine what all the pregnant and postpartum families are going through who lost it all — their homes, their baby nurseries, their sense of safety, and in many case their livelihood.
Being pregnant / postpartum is hard enough. Navigating it in the midst of losing your home in a wildfire? UNIMAGINABLE.
We rallied resources to help. Now we are asking our community to help us spread the word to make sure these resources reach the families who need them most.
If you are a brand or an individual who would like to contribute to our Fire Relief Fund, please email us at [email protected] 🤍
It’s on US to save US — has never rang more true.

LUNAR NEW YEAR EVENTS IN L.A.
Lunar New Year, which marks the beginning of a new year according to the lunisolar calendar, is celebrated in Chinese and other Asian communities, including Vietnamese and Korean. This year (Year of the Snake) falls on Jan. 29.
We’ve rounded up some of the best family-friendly events celebrating Lunar New Year in Los Angeles. In light of the recent wildfires, some Lunar New Year events, like the Chinatown Firecracker, have been postponed.

With the currently raging, we’re hoping all in the area are somewhere safe and we’re so sorry you’re going through this. Thank you to the firefighters working to get this (and other fires) under control.
Even if you’re not in the line of fire, remember to continue following safety guidelines for your breathing health: keeping windows closed, limiting time outdoors, wearing N95 masks, staying hydrated, using quality air purifiers indoors.
A big thank you to Air Purifiers for this purifier, which removes up to 99.9% of wildfire smoke, in addition to allergens, dust, viruses and more.

*CANCELED*
Westridge School’s popular Summer Opportunities Fair, which was scheduled for Feb. 1 on its Pasadena campus, has been canceled.
L.A. Parent is a long-time sponsor and supporter of this event, and while the school didn’t sustain any damage from the Eaton Canyon Fire, a number of families affiliated with the school did. Given that it’s an army of volunteers that helps run this event, the school opted to cancel it this year. Westridge is still planning to launch a robust SOF website in February as a summer planning resource.

On my way to take my son to school this morning, I captured this photograph of an LAUSD school bus ambling down one of L.A.’s iconic palm-lined streets. Then, on the way into Downtown L.A., we watched a thick blanket of smoke hang over the skyline.
“Not another fire,” I said, trying to tamp down the worry in my voice. My son is 17, but parents can’t help themselves. We try to do all we can to protect them for as long as we can, to not rob them of their childhood and teenage joys, to not burden them with the steaming cauldron of home, local, state, national and global concerns.
Still, while driving north on the 110, just before our own car drove under the carpet of smoke, I handed my son my phone. “Take a picture of the smoke,” I said. “And see if you can see off in the distance what direction it might be coming from.”
“Mom, we should turn around right now. I don’t need to school in this,” he said.
“I know, but with the long holiday break and the school closures during the first week of the fires, students have missed so much already. You can wear a mask. The fires have not threatened your school.”
But even that is not true. We won’t know the full effects of this toxic air for some time. And what of the hundreds of students in Altadena and Pacific Palisades who have lost their schools...and their homes?
Already, articles about the impact of the fires on our education system (one still reeling from the lasting impacts of the pandemic) are pouring in.
Here’s one in today’s LA School Report: laschoolreport.com/la-schools-reopen-but-recovery-will-be-a-long-and-painful/?

Get some cat love during this difficult time at Tail Town Cat Cafe in Pasadena.
The cat cafe reopened today following the promising containment of the Eaton Fire. The 2,000-square-foot facility features a relaxing space to get away from the stress of the past week, interact with 30-40 adoptable cats, enjoy filtered air and make new feline friends.
Located on the border of Altadena and Pasadena, Tail Town survived the massive fire that started Jan. 7. As the fire gained size, the cat café’s staff and volunteers immediately evacuated the 30+ resident cats to foster families in areas outside fire zones.
“Studies have found that petting cats for even 10 minutes decreases stress, and we’re grateful that we can reopen to provide a place where the community can come in, breathe easy and take a few minutes to take their mind off of the events with new kitty friends,” said Gwendolyn Mathers, acting executive director of Tail Town Cats.

Posted @withregram • @erikgarciaofficial 🙏🏽They say LA is fake, selfish, shallow. But when fires threatened our home, I saw the REAL Los Angeles. Hundreds showed up. Not for cameras. Not for clout. Just pure heart.
Christopher Bailey from Klover King loading supplies. Strangers passing out water. Food banks overflowing with donations. THIS is my city. Not the tabloid headlines or red carpets – but real people showing up for each other.

Remember the day you came home from the hospital with your first child? Do you remember holding your baby and feeling this incredible sense of love and joy, but also a touch of sheer panic?
We know! We’ve been there. At L.A. Parent, we’re living it day by day-- just like you. We drive carpools, attend parent/teacher conferences, plan birthday parties, stress about the right schools and camps, and wonder if we are doing enough — or too much?
Being a parent is most definitely the most challenging job, but it is also the most fun and rewarding job we could possibly imagine. At L.A. Parent, we truly feel honored to share this incredible journey with our 170,000 readers, visitors and followers each month.
Our mission is simple: We want to bring our families the best parenting resources in Los Angeles. And we never forget about fun! Our extensive calendar of events is the go-to source of information for fun things to do with your kids each month. We provide you the most in depth list of things to do in L.A. with kids.
L.A. Parent began with a vision: To discover Los Angeles through the eyes of a child. The first issue of the magazine, originally called “Pony Ride,” was published in 1980. For more than 35 years, we have been a companion and a guide for families throughout L.A., and we’re looking forward to continuing that tradition for generations to come.
Our Magazine
Our monthly magazine is distributed at more than 2,000 locations throughout the city and provides award-winning articles on a wide range of parenting topics, including education, health and wellness, family travel, and extensive coverage of organizations and people making our community a better place for families. Each issue also features a comprehensive calendar of family-friendly events and things to do in L.A. with kids.
Special Publications
Each year, we publish special-edition issues designed to provide essential resources for our families. Our Education Guide provides articles on early education, elementary, middle and high school and the road to college. It covers both private and public schools in Los Angeles county, as well as innovative trends and news regarding education in California.
Our award-winning Inclusive L.A. is an annual publication designed to give families information on new therapies and treatment options available, as well as enrichment and educational resources in L.A. County for children with special needs.
Our latest special edition, Beyond L.A., is all about enjoying life outside L.A.-- whether that’s a drive away or on another continent.
