MORAN FELLA TAKES OCALA
By: Psycho Billy
February 4, 2025
Big Sexy brought big attitude to Ocala, Florida Tuesday night. Brandon Overton set quick time in Group A with a 14.420. Carson Ferguson who is looking mighty strong in his sophomore season placed 2nd with a 14.576. Third would go Terbo Tyler Erb with a solid 14.617. Erb lies 3rd in Lucas points.
Group B Time Trials would go to the "Mailman" Devin Moran with a 14.362. It was the quickest lap of the night. Woo regular, Brian Shirley recorded 2nd quick with a 14.375. "The Kid" Drake Troutman was 3rd with a 14.438.
Now it was time for some circle track racing. Tonight and tomorrow night are non-points nights for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Defending LOLMDS champ, Ricky Thornton Jr, would sit out and focus on getting 2 cars ready for the nights that count for points. One of his chassis' was bent. Repairs had to be done.
Heat 1 would go to Brandon Overton as he was seeking the hat trick. Tagging along making the A Main were Hudson O'Neal, Tyler Erb, & Dillon McCowan. Coming up short was Spencer Hughes who rallied from 8th to 5th.
Heat 2 would find that "Sophomore Slugger" Carson Ferguson capturing the win over some Lucas heavy hitters: Jonathan Davenport, Daulton Wilson, & Jimmy Owens. On the outside looking in was the "Magic Man" Mark Whitener. Wilson lies 2nd in Lucas points.
Heat 3 would find Devin Moran victorious as he also was seeking the hat trick. (Little beknownst to everyone, it would be the 2 guys seeking the hat trick fighting hard for the A Main win!) Behind Moran was Tim McCreadie, Drake Troutman, & Carson Brown. Brandon Sheppard trying to find footing back in the Rocket1 house car was on the outside looking in.
Heat 4 saw the "Squirrel" Brian Shirley collect all the nuts for the win. Max Blair, Wil Herrington, & Garrett Alberson were all in pursuit till the checkers flew. On the outside looking in was Brenden Smith.
There were 2 B Mains. In B Feature #1, Mark Whitener would set the pace with Jack Riggs, Spencer Hughes, & Ross Robinson all moving into the A Main. Dennis Erb Jr fell 1 spot shy.
In B Feature #2, New Berlin, Illinois native Brandon Sheppard would garner the win ahead of a fast moving Kyle Bronson, Brenden Smith, & Clay Harris. Tristan Chamberlain would have to load up falling 1 spot shy of the promised land.
In the 30 lap non-points A Main, inside polesitter Brandon Overton fired off hard and quick. It would be he and Moran dueling hard for 23 laps until the "Mailman" decided it was time to deliver. He took the point. Closing fast late in the race was 4th in Lucas points, Jonathan Davenport. It was a good 3-car duel as each of the 3 thought they could and should have won. Daulton Wilson spun on lap 25 while running 9th. He would end up taking it pitside with 2 to go. Moran would get Overton by a car length with JD in 3rd. Psycho's Mover & Shaker was 20th starting Kyle Bronson. Not a lot can be done from the back in a 30 lap race. But Bronson managed to wheel that 40B into the 11th spot, holding that position for the final 4 laps.
