Pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training this week to start the 2025 season! Eastern Plains Sports Network Director Ben Blecha recently sat down with ABCA Hall of Famer and Left Gomez Award winner Bill Percy, who is now the assistant baseball coach at Northeastern Junior College. He talked with the long-time teacher and coach about a wide range of topics - the honor he received in January 2025 from the ABCA (0:00), growing up in Chicago (3:45), the Summer of '69 (16:15), his path to Colorado (31:00), changes in teaching over the last half century (45:45), the importance of extra curricular activities (54:00), developing lifelong relationships (60:30), expanding baseball internationally (67:15), and how the athletes of today are the same as athletes from decades ago (79:00). The Lady Cougars helped Kiyarra Williams surpass 1500 career points and was 1000 career rebounds in a 77-25 win over Limon, earning the entire team earn the POTN. Adan Lopez-Mitchell scored 18 points, but the Cougars fell 53-40.

It was a Friday night split in Idalia, with the Lady Wolves beating Burlington 48-44, and the Cougars taking a 37-32 victory. Brigette Kite and Broderick Kite were tabbed as the Wolves of the Night with 8 points and 12 points, respectively. Kiyarra Williams led the Lady Cougars with 20 points, and Darian McDonough had 12 in the boys game, earning each our Cougars of the Night honors.

On a night in which Jaylyn Kechter scored the 1000th point of her career, her Idalia Lady Wolves beat Bethune 59-22. The Idalia boys pulled out a 36-26 win. Our Wolves of the night were Ailyn Monarrez-Estrada and Kolby Morris, while Samantha Robinson and Mikall Inskeep were our Bobcats of the night.
