The conversations around The Little Mermaid have become so distorted and full of controversy that it's exhausting. This movie is about a mermaid and her talking crab friend. It's an animated feature film that brings joy and entertainment to millions of people all around the world. It should not be used as a platform for criticism or an excuse to deny a Black woman the spotlight she deserves.

It's time to stop using racism and feminism as a cover-up for our own hidden prejudices and let us have The Little Mermaid. We owe it to Halle Bailey, who has assumed the role of Ariel to perfection, and to the millions of viewers who are looking forward to this movie.
