🌊 Understanding Lake Anna’s Watershed: Upper, Middle, and Lower Basins 🌊

Lake Anna’s watershed is a 342-square-mile drainage area that shapes its ecosystem. The Upper Basin—stretching from Rose Valley to the State Park—receives the largest portion of runoff, while the Middle (from the Splits to the Power Plant) and Lower Basins (below the Power Plant) benefit from smaller inflows. 💧 Understanding this division helps us grasp the lake’s health and how runoff affects each section differently.

🌱 Growing for Good! 🌱

Since 2022, the incredible Louisa Extension Master Gardeners have donated over 6,933 pounds of fresh produce 🍅🥬 to the Louisa County Resource Council (LCRC) food bank and Hooves and Paws Rescue 🐾! These volunteer gardeners are stepping up to help local families and furry friends in need ❤️, especially as food prices continue to rise. 🌍💪

Lovingly known in the community as "DJ Mike." Thanks to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office for providing more details.

In the early hours of October 25, Sergeant R. Lewis of the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office discovered a single-vehicle crash while on routine patrol in the 6600 block of Lawyers Road. The accident occurred around 1:00 a.m. as the driver, Michael Mitchell Jr., 49, of Louisa County, was traveling east on Lawyers Road when he reportedly lost control of his vehicle.

🌹 In Loving Memory of Mike Mitchell

There will be a gathering of friends and family to honor and remember on Wednesday, October 30th from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Preddy’s Funeral Home in Gordonsville.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 31st at 2:00 PM at the same location, with a private graveside service immediately following for family members only.

🐾 History in the Making! 🐾

On a perfect October day in Gordonsville, Virginia, the Rehab Rover Canicross and Trail Race took off as the first-ever sanctioned Canicross event in the state! Over 135 human-dog teams 🐶👟 showed up for a day filled with fitness, adventure, and unbreakable bonds. 🏃‍♂️💨 Jennifer Carter, the visionary behind Harness Canicular, was blown away by the turnout. “We expected maybe 50 people,” she said, “but participants just kept coming!” 🌄👏

Our community is heartbroken today as we say goodbye to Mike Mitchell, known to many as "DJ Mike." Many who knew him or knew of him will remember his infectious energy and iconic smile that lit up any event.

🔋 SMR Update at Lake Anna: Dominion Energy & Amazon Exploring Nuclear Feasibility 🔋

There’s a lot of buzz surrounding Dominion Energy's recent announcement about teaming up with Amazon to explore Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). But it’s important to remember—this is still just an exploration into the feasibility of nuclear energy. No guarantees on SMR development just yet! 🛑

Dominion is hopeful for the first SMR at Lake Anna by 2033, but nothing’s set in stone. If this moves forward, the SMR could produce at least 300 megawatts of power—vital as power demand in Virginia is expected to increase by a staggering 85% over the next 15 years! ⚡️

🌟 When we started The Breeze, we were lucky to get some incredible contributors who volunteered their talents, and one of them is Lake Anna’s very own comic—The Flatwaters! Since then, we’ve had the pleasure of featuring this adorable comic each month.
