It was such an honor to be present and included in the retelling of a forgotten Spelman College history- the Board of Trustees Lock in of 1976, which served as a catalyst for the college to hire its first black female president. Found on 1/2” open reel, the only known footage of that event is now able to be included in the fabric of Spelman’s history thanks to College Archivist Holly Smith.

We were honored to launch this new grant award in conjunction with Georgia Archives Month and the Digital Library of Georgia! We were even more honored to listen to and preserve these seldom heard recordings!

This year GAM, in conjunction with the Digital Library of Georgia and Preserve South, launched a Digitization Grant in addition to the Spotlight Grant. Our inaugural awardee was Georgia College and State University! With this grant, they were able to digitize 10 LPs from their Black Gospel collection, including Get Back Satan by The Piney Grove Spiritual Singers. Join us in congratulating GCSU and if you get a chance, pay a visit to their new exhibit on campus!

Our thoughts are with all of our clients and friends in Florida and South Georgia as Hurricane Ian approaches.
