A Music Producerā€™s Journey Through Passion, Perseverance, and Purpose

Thereā€™s something magnetic about musicā€”itā€™s both personal and universal. For Rob, that magnetic pull started early.

Rob didnā€™t grow up in a household of musiciansā€”but he did grow up surrounded by music. The sounds of the ā€˜60s and ā€˜70s were always playing: The Beatles, Queen, Elton John, Billy Joel, Simon & Garfunkel. That early exposure formed the foundation of his musical tasteā€”before he began exploring his own path, diving into harder rock and more aggressive styles.

His journey started with an old acoustic guitar lying around the house. With a childhood friend, Rob began learning songs by ear, not really knowing what he was doingā€”just following the pull of the music. That instinctive curiosity turned into something more serious in high school, where Rob joined a band, played dances, and began to understand one of musicā€™s most important lessons: music isnā€™t just about playingā€”itā€™s about playing with others.

College bands became stepping stones to something bigger: a touring role with the rock band Angry Salad, where Rob learned the grit of the professional circuit. From 5,000-person venues to empty bars, the show always had to go on. It was there that Rob learned what it meant to be a professional: showing up prepared, no matter what, and delivering the best possible performance every single night.

Eventually, he pivoted toward creating original work, fronting two bandsā€”South 16 and The Narrow Channelsā€”and diving deep into DIY recording. This curiosity led him to SAE Institute in Vancouver, where he formalized his knowledge in audio engineering while launching Waves Between Windows, a multimedia project whose video for the song ā€œRhythmā€ went viral in 2018.

In 2017, Rob returned to Buffalo, NY, and soon after, crossed paths with Cold Narly Music Academy and started his journey as an after-school music instructor and in-house producer.

Over the years, Rob has played a central role in helping the school evolveā€”working with countless clients, recording in multiple studios, and eventually building his own home setup for both remote and in-person sessions. In 2023, he even flew across the country to San Jose, California, to spend a full day with a remote clientā€”coaching her on home recording, refining her song, and ultimately helping her take ownership of her own creative process.


When asked what he loves most about the work, Rob says:
ā€œThereā€™s nothing that breaks down barriers more quickly than music and art. Working with young artists has exposed me to more music than I couldā€™ve imagined. The more you hear, the more you want to knowā€”and it never stops.ā€

From Boston dive bars to Buffalo home studios, Robā€™s journey is a powerful reminder that music is more than a career. Itā€™s a lifelong dialogue. And Cold Narly is lucky to have someone fluent in the language.

The momentum and the credibility of great work quickly spread across the area allowing us to becoming an operating music production company. Since then we have expanded into a national brand.
