Here's how they made the little donuts Indian Creek Farm - the perfect stop for an afternoon snack on the last day of our ITHACA road trip!
On the LAST DAY of our ITHACA Road Trip, our first stop was the Cascadilla Gorge trail. Located in the heart of the city and ascending over 400 feet, this historic set of stone trails and staircases was originally constructed in the late 1920's, and takes visitors through the gorge formed from ancient bedrock and past six waterfalls. The trail connects downtown with the Cornell University campus and we passed quite a few students who use it to get to class and tell us it’s not only scenic but a good workout. Already scenic, when the leaves change color, it will be GORGEOUS! Note to parents: Unfortunately, this is not a place for strollers or children younger than school age. The pathways and stone stairs are uneven. Good footwear is necessary.
Our very LAST STOP OF THE DAY was dinner The BoatYard Grill, where our dessert was their signature chocolate chip cookie wedge on a hot cast iron skillet, topped with Purity vanilla ice cream & drizzled with warm caramel that positively sizzled. Yummy! (The hikes we took to the two waterfalls we visited helped burn off enough calories to lessen our guilt!)
FEEDING THE GOATS at Lively Run Dairy was great fun! These guys were like vacuum cleaners when it came to emptying my palm of corn kernels. Not seen are younger goats who are in an adjacent pen.
Taughannock Falls, Ithaca
DAY THREE of our ITHACA Road Trip included several stops, so check out our successive posts of photos and videos! FIRST STOP: Taughannock Falls, which plunges 215 feet past rocky cliffs that tower nearly 400 feet above the gorge. Gorge and rim trails offer spectacular views from above the falls and from below at the end of the gorge trail. Campsites and cabins overlook Cayuga Lake, with marina, boat launch, playground, and beach nearby. A multi-use trail -- hiking, cross-country skiing -- winds past sledding slopes and natural skating ponds.
